Wrong trig ratio

My ti 84 will always get a wrong answer if i am trying to do trig ratio. I think I am doing everything right but its trig ratio is always wrong. For example, if I do sin 78, it gives 0.513978. which is certainly wrong. I don't know if there is a problem with my ti 84 or I am doing something wrong. Thanks a lot.

Your calculator is set in radians. Press mode key. Arrow down to 3rd line. Highlight degree and press enter. Your calculator is now in degrees, not radians. To get out of the mode screen and back to home screen, press 2nd and then mode.

You must use parenthesis:
sin(
value) cos(value) tan(value)

Why is my ti84 giving me wrong answers when I use trig functions?

Your right you should be in degree mode. However, my guess is you are somehow entering in cot wrong in your calc. Recall cot = 1/tan! In your graphing calculator enter: 35(1/tan(61) = 19.4.
Hope this helped!

How to solve trig functions using ti-83 plus

Your best bet would be trying a math package on ti-calc.org - you can usually find something that does what you want there. You'll need a cable and the software to download these programs to your calculator. Here's a link to the trig section:

Cannot graph two equations together, & trig graphs are not correct.

At first in Y editor type Y1=2*cosx and for example y2=[5*exp(-x)]-5 and then graphing it. Set RAD mode of course. See captured images

How do i get inv on my TI-84 Plus caculator

To get the inverse trigonometric functions press the 2nd key then the trig function key. If you'll look at the key legends above the SIN, COS, and TAN keys you'll see the standard math notations for their inverse function.

I have to take the secant of -1.2. I'm supposed to get a degree. I can't figure out the order to push buttons. PLEASE help!

TWO THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW, Eli.1. Secant will NEVER return a degree measure (or even a radian measure) no matter what computer or calculator you use. The reason is because secant returns the ratio of sides (hypotenuse over adjacent), which has a range of and find its reciprocal (ie, flip the number upside down: the reciprocal of 5 is one-fifth). That's all.B. TI-84 only uses the three basic trig functions. Secant is the reciprocal of cosine. Therefore, in order to find the secant of -1.2 radians you need to be in Radian mode (see #2 above). From there, you just find the cosine of -1.2 and take that values reciprocal (ie, flip the number upside down: the reciprocal of 10 is point one) . That's all. Math lesson: 1 Radian = 180 Degrees. Therefore, 1.2 Radians is roughly one-third of pi, therefore it is roughly one-third of 180 degrees; therefore -1.2 radians would be nearly -60 degrees (a very friendly angle measure). I hope that helps If not, you should call Texas Instruments because they've got friendly people who are happy to assist anyone. Questions like this are right up their ally, advanced questions like the syntax of the poisson cumulative distribution function are not. So, you're fine. For in depth math help holler at www.THEMATHCHEETAH.comIn Short: Secant returns ratios and NOT degrees or radians. Secant is the reciprocal to cosine. Arcsecant WILL return degrees/radians. Your calculator can be set to either mode.TEXAS INSTRUMENTS >>>>> all calculators ever made.

I have a TI-84 Plus Silver Edition calculator and I need to find the inverse key to get values for sin, cos, tan, csc, sec, cot. I'm past the lesson where you use the 2nd/sin, cos tan to find the...

There are no keys for cosecant, secant, and cotangent. You can calculate those ratios as

csc(x) = 1/sin(x)

sec(x) = 1/cos(x)

cot(x) = 1/tan(x)

Simply calculate the trig ratio on the right and then take its reciprocal.

Graphing trig functions

Put the calculator in radian mode and it will graph trig functions just fine. If you don't know how to change it to radians, then go to mode and cursor over to select radians. I am assuming you know where the sine, cosine, tangent, etc. keys are.
