My HP Proliant Microserver keeps rebooting without warning when only having certain programs open. solved , I was ignoring overheating.

I have an HP Proliant Microserver Gen8 and when I have certain programs open it reboots. When I have Eclipse IDE Java Edition open it works fine but when it comes to Google or Minecraft it keeps rebooting. When it reboots it shows no warning and completely turns off. After around 1 second it turns on and boots up. Please help!

To better determine what is causing it to reboot, first ensure your computer isn't configured to restart on a failure. From windows explorer, you can right-click on "This PC" or "My computer" and select "Properties". From there, there should be an "Advanced" tab, with a section titled "Startup and Recovery". Click on the "Settings" button in that section, to bring up the "Startup and Recovery" settings. There is a "System Failure" section, with an item "Automatically restart". Uncheck that, and click "Ok". The next time you have a failure, you should get a "Blue screen of *****", that has error information. You can google the error code to figure out what is failing. If you still don't see a blue screen of ***** when it fails, it implies an overheating issue. Look for tools to monitor CPU/GPU temperature, like "Speccy", and you can see if either is running too hot. Hope that helps.

ok, run a free CPU heat monitor
    it cost zero.
keep in the task bar life, mine has 4 core in the bar. 50,51,53,50C
most bios sees this and han SCREaMS
im guessing the fan is dead.
or those funky lamp gamer heatsink fell off.
or forgot the TIM, thermal compound, I run only run shin etsu, grease ,not by religion(gamers),
    but my own tests. !!!

    your gpu needs a fan,WORKING
oddly this server has no model series...
its a cheap server, lacking all the good things.
100c is bad to the bone hot,
50c par, 80c is limit from most BIOS faN Controllers.
no gpu stated is it a card and does it have its own fan,or an HP custom fit, set of air flow guides, there or missing.

  • Anonymous Jan 06, 2019

the service manual at HPe.COM COVERS THIS.
the mobo gpu chip needs all vents clear
and the huge fan in the rear working and blowing air.
if you put in and expansion card, and the added a video card to this exp. card, then that needs a fan if it overheats and the ABOVE fan can not do the job..
I've no idea what is in the box. no photos by you of that. so no guessing on my part.

did you put this g8 in a closet or cabinet
    and then that space overheats,
the g8 will not like a 125F degree room or space.
if the room it is in is cool, then the fan is dead. or packed full of lint or dog/cat hair.
photos are worth 1000 words, they say
    but never practiced here,

  • Anonymous Jan 07, 2019

    omg the fan died.
    right?

  • Anonymous Jan 08, 2019

A real hP server the iLo will email you
with" pc OVERHEATING, FAN 3 DEAD)
BUT NOT THIS TOY. CHEAP IS CHEAPER.

  • Anonymous Jan 08, 2019

    RUN FREE HWINFO32.EXE PORTABLE
ALL YOU NEED FOR OVERHEATING IS THERE.

  • Anonymous Jan 09, 2019

running a desktop doing nothing is 2D mode
and GPU runs cool as does CPU
but if you tax (load up) both the CPU and GPU
and for sure GPU 3D graphics intensive
the fan dead, means the chips overheat fasthttp://www.pcdied.com/overheated.html

do you want see that happen live?
never do this,it shows why fan is not optional
    here is a video > gif, madehttp://pcdied.com/raw/test1.gif

never let any chip overheat. ok? OP

op is it fixed, did we help.

  • Larry Ng
    Larry Ng Jan 17, 2019

Ok OP , HERE IS MY 7 WAYS LIST FOR YOU AND OTHERS NOT UNDERSTANDING COMPUTERS.
IT SHUTS OFF BY SELF! (PROBLEM.)
AND THEN WITH ALL FANS DEAD, TOTAlly dead,
the PSu is off, all hdd not spinning
Dvd drive dead, tray button... (means really off) (MY HP PANEL LED YELLOW ) IS OFF
YELLOW MEANS STANDBY POWER LIVE AND GOOD.
the server self turns on? yes?

did you know the BIOS there is feature on almost all servers and things like wake on lan? (and other wake on features , look and see)
the bios has POWER schedule calendar inside.
turn on, turn off BY date and time. look yet?

is this server connected to bad AC power
mine runs on a UPS so never has bad power
but if I had bad power, the bios
    has a setting called
if power lost, turn back on or NOT.
Home PCs are set to NOt
but servers, it's YES, makes sense no?
    it is a real server.

you need to learn how power works on a server
    for sure.
if a PC overheats and turns off, as it will)
then if the what do do if power is lost
    rule is next.
buy a book called managing a server.
    ?"servers for dummy;s" (tm/cr)

    or it was overheating
the CPU at 90c self shuts down)(intel inside)
the BIOS shuts down a 80c, by design.

the OS only shuts down if corrupted/virus
or you have script running that do that.
    "task schedule:"

no OS stated, at all ,not clue
    hell it could be linux
    XP (bad bad bad)
    or windowsserver, 2008 or 2013 or 2016.IDK
    do you?

now way 2, yes seen them all in 50year on the job.
the gpu CARD IS A POWER HOG, GAMMING CARD.
MOST ARE OLDER THAN 2 YEARS OLD.
NO CARD STATED, NO pC NO FACTS AT ALL MUCH.
the GPU called GTX650 sucks 30amps
if your PSU is weak,(aka as cheap)
sees that 30 amp overload, an the PSU shuts off.
all PSU do that not the 750w and up,
see? can demo all i say every word.
    if running SLI cards,twin , 2times worse.

    1:overheated
    2:bios scheduled to.
    3:windows schedule to.
    4:PSU overload or bad.
5:in device plugged into that mobo that shorts. PSU shuts down.
6: GPU card bad or wrong wattage PSU used.
    7:;some kind of crazy virus.
i think i got them all....
most server shops have spares do you> ?
    seems not.

to fix PCs or worse servers, we need to understand them
my HP server the Iilo engine, i log in
and it tells me exactly what caused the shutdown. for sure.
so may the windows sever logs.
    or the event viewer logs.
my server has 2 PSU and can autoswitch to good one, and tells it did in Ilo.
    Ilo is remote access.

SOME COMPUTERS DO NOT NOT TURN OFF HOT
THE CPU EXECUTES A HALT INSTRUCTION
    AND FREZZES DEAD.
THE PSU FAN STILL BLOWS IS THE BIG CLUE.
ALL BIOS IS DEAD NOW, DUE TO HALT.
THE CPU HALTED COOLS FAST. SAVING ITSELF.

What happens next varies by maker. and model.
on some PC,there is this magic device called a
watch dog timer, that when dead,(halted)
the WDT cold boots the PC.

seen big time on space craft and missiles.
    and other very good systems.

    if wiser
add a very big fan to case.
so when fan 1 dies. the 2nd picks up the load
    not only that but the parts inside last longer for sure;

if noise is an issue, buy slow large fans
    or ones themally controlled.
my home game pc runs 400rpm all 3 fans
slow and near silent, and speed up only on very crazy games, $60 games.
but only a bit the GTX1050 runs very very cool.

  • Anonymous Jan 17, 2019

the power controller in the server is the most complex of all, intel, ich10 and newer.
my z270p ,the fans can be set with a curve
my own RPM /heat sensors, a custom curve.
    amazing it is.?
i run my most nasty game, see cpu heat 70c?
then set my curve to be slow fan below that
then at 70c the fans scream
    all custom settings.
a gentle slope up, then at 70C fans go NUTS.
    (FAST)

SOURCE: reboot my hp laptop

Hold and press the power button down ( and dont let go ) for at least 10 seconds or untill laptop shuts down and you can reboot by powering it back up by pressing power again. If it still shows access denied after you rebooted then more than likely you need a password.

SOURCE: i closed my Eclipse editor after usual work; and i came on next day to office, try to open it ,but not getting opened by saying "An error has occured .see the log file"

Start by looking at the last line:

MESSAGE Missing required bundle org.eclipse.gef_0.0.0.

Looks like it can't find the GEF (graphical editing framework) libraries. They should be in your eclipse/plugins directory - if not, download a fresh copy from http://www.eclipse.org/gef/downloads/ and extract into the plugins directory.

Can you post the output after doing this, so we can see if the Quantum / OSGI libs are missing too?

My server is keeping booting and can't log in to windows

Hello,

You issue could be both hardware and software related. The Blue Screen of Death is one that I don't like to see but can be easy to solve at times. First, I would recommend you recheck and hardware that was newly installed; memory cards, cables, etc. Verify they are connected or inserted correctly. Next, if this is a new install of Windows 2008, verify that your server meets the hardware captiablity for S2008. (Remember, this is a 64-bit os and you will need drivers if your server is 32-bit based.) You can find this out by inserting the Windows Server 2008 boot disc and run the Check System for Compatiablity function from the menu.
If you are certain that you have no hardware issues and the install was performed correctly, you may need to reinstall Server '08 and monitor the install for any exceptions that may occur.

Good Luck,
