SOURCE: Printer will not print black, but will not let me replace black cartridge

Had the same problem but this worked for me. To force a cartridge change, press and hold down the PAPER FEED button for at least 5 seconds as suggested here:

http://esupport.epson-europe.com/ViewArticle.aspx?lng=en-GB&kbid=313630&data=qBjAbS6NcI3fNMgp8+fHGGs5vImpFwyM

I then changed the black cartridge, even though I hadn't used much ink from the old cartridge and the computer was showing it as three quarters full.

SOURCE: Printer not printing black ink.. beware the clowns below with spam phone numbers

The problem you are all having is with the print head (The black tray that your ink cartridges sit in).

Most of the time a simple cleaning of this will correct the problem, if it does not then you will have to call Kodak support and they will send you out another print head.

But lets try and see if we can get your troubled one to work again by following these steps...

1 - turn printer on and open the lid as if you were going to change the printer ink cartridges.

2- when the ink tray moves into the center and stops, remove both the black and color cartrdiges from the print head.

3- To remove the print head simply place your left thumb inside the head all the way to the left facing up and pinch the upper left lip of the print head to release it, then pull the entire tray out with your other hand ( there is a release inside the tray above the sticker of a finger and bullseye to the far left in the upper left corner inside the tray)

4- With the tray now removed be sure to look at the bottom and you most likely will find a build-up of black ink... clean this off using DRY paper towel as much as you can.
I used rubbing alcohol but if you do this make SURE it is completely dry before reinstalling.

5- Once you have cleaned the print head reinstall it in reverse fashion than you removed it, if you installed it right you will hear a solid CLICK noise.

6- replace the ink cartridges you removed if they still have ink in them and then close the printer lid.

7- You may get a notice that there is a new printer head and or cartridges and it will want to align and or calibrate the printer...be sure to do this!

8- Once the printer is recalibrated hit the menu tab on the printer and choose " clean ink head"... Do a deep cleaning 2 times!

9- Now try to print something that contains something black like a text document. If it works you are all set, if it did not then you will need a new print head from kodak. simply explain that you did the above steps and it did not work so that you can avoid support trying to run you through all this. They will send you a new one in 2 days.

Hope this helps and good luck!

SOURCE: Black ink

The PGBK cartridge is a pigment black ink, while the others use a dye for coloration. The pigment black is used when printing text and other documents. The dye ink is used when printing photos and other colored documents. The dye black is used in conjunction with the color (dye) inks to provide tinting and color gradation, and therefore is not used nearly as much as the pigment black unless you use your printer only for printing photos.

If you're printing text and documents, you will need to buy another pigment black (PGBK) cartridge.

SOURCE: The printer doesn't recognize the new original HP color cartridge

There is a small spring that holds the ink cartridge in the ink holder. You will see it stick out from the right hand side of the ink holder where the ink cartridge slides in. If that spring isn't being held to the ink holder by two plastic tabs, (I.E. the plastic tabs are broken) the printer will never recognize the cartridge. If the printer is still under warranty I would contact HP or an authorized repair center for HP. Both the black and color ink holder has this spring. I know of no way to repair this kind of breakage.

SOURCE: Can I use the black cartridge only in my Hp2175?

You have to have both cartridges in for the printer to work.
To print in black only go to control panel, printers, properties, printing preferences, color then select gray scale.

Where do you insert the ink cartridges on lexmark x4650

These are the instructions for X2500 Printer
1.Press the "Power" button to turn on your Lexmark X2500 3-in-1 printer.
2.Open the top portion of the printer to reveal the ink cartridges.
3.Lift the gray plastic cover on the left. Remove the empty black #28 ink cartridge. Next, lift the purple plastic cover on the right and remove the empty color #29 ink cartridge.

6.Slide the black #28 cartridge into the slot on the left side and push it down. Slide the color #29 cartridge into the slot on the right side and push down.
7.Push the gray plastic cover down over the #28 cartridge until it clicks closed. Push the purple plastic cover down over the #29 cartridge until it clicks closed.
8.Close the top portion of the printer. Your new ink cartridges are installed, and your printer is ready to use.
