When I turn on my Krups XP2000 the pump vibrates for 3-5 seconds as normal. Then at the heating period the pump vibrates in pulses until and after is fully heated heating light turns off. When I make an espresso all works normal. I have opened my machine in order to check if the electric circuit had a problem. So i used my voltage meter to see if the electic circuit was giving the power to the pump. I find out that when I turn on my machine 220 Volts are applied to the pump normal start up and afterwards the voltage is 30 Volts and the pump vibrates in pulses. Also there are not any bypass valves even behind the water tank which as I understand is a common problem in the newer models of Krups
You can try to put in a small bleeding resistor to push away the 30 Volts. However, this is not a proper solution.
Check where the 30 volts have it's origin. If you spot a false connection somewhere, fix this.
Thank you for your reply timoboon2. From your answer I understand that the problem is on the circuit board. Do you think that 30 volts are enough for the pump to vibrate? What resistance you suggest to install in the circuit? I have to mention that the board after a close examination is not showing any burned elements or damaged cables. Again thanks for your comment.

Check your wiring between the contactor and compressor for a short to ground, or check the compressor windings for short to ground.
With the Tstat off, the contactor should be open so the only way for the compressor to be trying to do anything is if the 110 volts from the unbroken side are traveling through the compressor to ground. Since 110v is not enough to run it, the overload is kicking it out, cooling off, and repeating the cycle. When you kick on the Tstat, the contactor is supplying voltage directly to ground without going through the resistence of the compressor windings and kicking the breaker.
Post back and let me know what you find.
SOURCE: My Breville800ESXL makes steam but does not make espresso.
jejones is right. try a coarser grind. it still makes great espresso, especially if you really pack a lot of ground coffee into the filter basket. Just make sure it is a bit coarser than you would normally use for machines without the dual wall filter basket.

That is a faulty thermostat or a defective control board.
Contact Krups and have the machine replaced.

Hi
Your machine is still in the descale mode. You haven't finished. If you have run the descaler through, the water is ermpty the pump will still keep going until it stop on its own. If it doesn't stop on its own, the computer thinks its still in the descale mode. remove the water tank and turn the machine back on. The pump will run and then make a lot of noise, then stop. This can take up to 5 minutes. Let it run until it stops. You will get blinking lights on the panel. Put the water tank back on and close the steam knob then open it again. The pump will start the rinse mode. Let it stop on its own. Computer can't see that you ran a whole tank of water, but it can see when the flow meter stops that there is no water left. If you have already rinsed the machine start the pump flowing and just lift the tank off. When the pumps stops the rinse cycle the descale light will be gone but you will have the heater light blinking and the water light steady. Put the tank back on and close the steam valve then open it again. This will clear the water light and the machine will start to heat again.

I have the same machine. I just went on the coffee geeks website and it is easily solved. Just add a few grains of salt to the reservoir - the sensor cant detect water that is purified - strange but true as four grains and it fired up just like that.
