Normally you lift the back up slightly about one inch and pull it towards the front.

2003 town car trunk wont open with remote or button on door, only key?

Luggage Compartment Lid
The luggage compartment lid module receives a voltage signal from the driver door module (DDM) when either the button on the driver door trim panel, the keyless entry keypad, or the transmitter is pressed (twice on the transmitter). Voltage is then supplied to the luggage compartment lid latch, opening it. Using the luggage compartment lid key operates the latch mechanically, resulting in manual-only operation of the lid. There are two switches in the latch. One is monitored by the luggage compartment lid module to sense if the latch is closed. The other switch in the latch is monitored by both modules (LCM and luggage compartment lid module) and is used for disabling the anti-theft system, which is contained within the LCM. The luggage compartment lid module powers the lid motor to move the lid to the full-open position when it senses the latch has been opened. Optical sensors within the lid motor are monitored by the module to determine when to turn off power and which circuits should be powered or grounded to the lid motor. When one of the buttons is depressed with the lid open, the DDM sends a signal to the luggage compartment lid module which powers and grounds the correct circuits to the lid motor and lowers the lid until the latch closes. The module senses the latch closing through the lid latch switch that is monitored. At this time, the module powers the closing motor, slowly pulling the lid to a fully closed position. Two switches within the closing motor are monitored by the module to determine when the closing motor is fully down or up. The module has a vehicle speed output (VSO) (circuit 679) signal that is used to shut down the system if there is a VSO of approximately 5 kph (3 mph) or more. For diagnostics, the module uses the ISO-9141 circuit 70 that is included in the DLC (data link connector). Whenever battery power is lost to the luggage compartment lid module, luggage compartment lid motor or the luggage compartment lid closing motor; the system must be initialized.

NOTE: The luggage compartment lid motor is equipped with an optical sensor that the module uses to determine if the lid is closing on foreign materials based on lid speed. If the module detects this occurring, power and ground will be reversed to the lid motor and the lid will open.
  1. Verify the customer concern by operating the luggage compartment lid using the four different methods (driver door trim panel button, transmitter button, keyless entry keypad and key) to duplicate the concern.
  1. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.

Visual Inspection Chart Mechanical Electrical
  • Luggage compartment lid motor
  • Luggage compartment lid closing motor
  • Luggage compartment lid latch
  • Luggage compartment lid and hinges
  • Battery junction box (BJB) fuse(s):

    • 1 (30A)
  • Central junction box (CJB) fuse(s):

    • 14 (7.5A)
  • Circuitry

  1. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step. Verify the two grounds (G204, G401) are clean, tight and free from corrosion. Remove and clean to make sure.
  1. Monitoring the PIDS in the luggage compartment lid module can verify the DDM is sending the lid-open signal to the lid module. They can also be used to determine if the latch switches, the lid switches and the lid motor sensors are all providing the luggage compartment lid module with the correct and necessary information to operate the system. The VSO input can shut the system down if there is a signal indicating 5 kph (3 mph) or more.
  1. If the electrical lid operation is ok, but the key is ineffective, refer to Section 501-14 .
  1. If the cause is not visually evident, connect the diagnostic tool to the data link connector (DLC) located under the instrument panel and select the vehicle to be tested from the diagnostic tool menu. If the diagnostic tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
    • check that the program card is correctly installed.
    • check the connections to the vehicle.
    • check the ignition switch position.
    • If the diagnostic tool still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the diagnostic tool operating manual.
  1. Carry out the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST. If the diagnostic tool responds with:
    • CKT 914, CKT 915 or CKT 70 = ALL ECUs NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, refer to Section 418-00 .
    • NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for luggage compartment lid module, Go To Pinpoint Test A .
    • SYSTEM PASSED, retrieve and record the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs, and carry out the self-test diagnostics for the luggage compartment lid module.
  1. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the luggage compartment lid module Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index to continue diagnostics. For lighting control module (LCM) concerns, refer to Section 419-10 for a complete DTC index.
  1. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, proceed to the Symptom Chart. WL80T65CW1. Why is it displaying fault 234 and will not cycle?

Replace just the lid lock assembly to start with and see how it goes. Lids are quite expensive and don't usually need replacing. You can always get a lid later if you still have problems.

Aquasmart lid

Is the lid lock tang on lid broken.
2.9 Lid Lock
The Phase 7 Washer uses the same lid lock that is used on
the Phase 6 series 11 & 12 machines. The difference being is that the lid is now locked for the entire cycle. When the lid is locked the Lid Locked LED will illuminate. Once the spin
has completed, the lock will release and the lid can be
opened. To open the lid during the cycle the
START/PAUSE button must be pressed, the machine will
come to a halt, and the lid locked LED will extinguish.
If the lid is left open, the machine will be unable to lock the lid
and the cycle will be halted. The machine will play a tune
and the lid lock will flash until the lid is closed and START/PAUSE is pressed.
• If the lid-lock fails in the closed position, the locked lid can be forced upwards and out of the
lock. Note: This is the only time in which we would recommend doing this.
• If the harness is damaged, the complete lid lock assembly will need to be replaced.
If the power supply is cut during the spin cycle, the machine will keep the lid locked until the rotor has ceased to turn (3 to 10 secs). Only then will it release the lock. The motor is acting like a generator and allows the lock to stay energized under the bowls inertia.

Error Code showing UC

Hello plthrsn64 ,
You should open up a separate problem for this but I will post as a solution for the Lid Lock Issue.

For the FAV6800AW that is you machine type correct? The "LO" console error is "Lid has failed to unlock". I haven't experienced the "LO" error code to the display but this is the direction I would go in. I feel you have a signaling problem back to the control board in the console from the lid is unlocked contacts in the left/right Lid Locks.. I would disconnect the left and right lid lock plugs to the washer. The right lid lock is not necessary for operation. The left lid lock is the important one because of its dual signaling function, the Lid is closed signaling from the magnetic reed relay and lid magnet and the lid is locked signaling from lid locks slide switch in the lid lock. I think you may corrosion build up in the left lid lock such as the Pic’s I will attach show of other users. The left lid lock is subject to corrosion brought on by the bleach dispenser.

You can start by un-seating the right lid lock and leave off. Then try un-seating and re-seating the left lid lock plug a few times and see if that will get you back in service. Be careful those plugs are difficult to pull out. Please remove power to the washer first then you will need to lift up the washer top to access the lid lock plugs. Here is the process, use the service manual for additional support.

The Service Manual for reference. Sears Parts Direct for reference.
Raise the top of the machine. Insert a flat blade putty knife approximately 2.5” from the left and right sides of the washer top, depress the spring tabs securing machine top to the washer base. See page 33 of the SM for putty knife insertion point.

If seating/reseating the left Lid Lock a few times doesn’t help I would remove the left lid lock per the Service Manual, carefully open up the left lid lock and see if corrosion is the issue. The plastic latchs around the lid lock enclosure can break off very easily be careful when opening the lid lock. If you have severe corrision I would use some WD-40 to clean up the contacts with a Q-Tip. The cntacts for the Lid is locked slide back and forth with the activation of the solenoid in the lid lock. You may have to rock back and forth the solenoid to clean up the slide switch. Just watch how the relay parts sit in the lock the latch arm will come out and you will have to fit back together to operate correctly. Sounds complicated it is not, it's just difficult to explain. If you have to replace the left lid lock here is a link.

Question about whirlpool catalyst 27" washer

F3 means lid switch failure. Heres what the service manual for your washer says about the failure.
Flashes if the lid is NOT opened after the cycle was completed. The
electronic control board must detect that PAUSE/CANCEL was
pressed during a cycle or the lid was opened at least once at the end
of any cycle. This is continually tested to ensure proper lid switch
operation. If “F 3” is flashing, check continuity of the lid switch.
• With the lid closed, lid switch contacts should be closed.
• With the lid open, lid switch contacts should be open.
• If the lid switch has failed, replace it.
• If the lid switch is good, replace the electronic control board.
