You must replace the cartridge first. You can clean the print head using the Epson Stylus CX9400 Series control panel or your software. Load a few sheets of plain paper in the sheet feeder. Hold down the Stop button for 3 seconds to start the cleaning cycle, which lasts around 1 minute.

Replace the cartridges.
Otherwise, it's unorthodox, but some users have found that this works in your situation. Remove the cartridge, cover the nozzle with a paper towel and use the pointed attachment of a vacuum to clean the dry ink from the cartridge. Be careful not to get ink all over. Then reseat the cartridge and print...

In desperation tried another new cartridge and it worked perfectly first time: I suspect the first was faulty so off to retailer for refund ASAP. At 30+GBP they dont come cheap!

SOURCE: I would like to refill Epson Stylus CX9400 old ink

I wouldn't recommend it because it will void your Epson warranty.

Color Ink prints are nice, but this cannot be an everyday printer --- the cartridges will put you in the poor house.

Buy a cheap monochrome laser printer (recommend the Brother brand) and save the purple ink for the elections.

Cheers!

SOURCE: I would like to refill Epson Stylus CX9400 old ink

You cant recode the cartridge it is programmed to die and fry. You can get chips but many DIY filling options are going to cause you other issues down the road, they are a cheap way to run your printer but eventually willc ause you issues such as ink leaks which leads to the in pad needing to be renewed not to mention some other horror stories. I would alays reccomend OEM inks, but if non OEM is hte way you want to go contact a retail outlet that specialises in refilling spent cartridges.

SOURCE: Just purchase and set up Epson Stylus CX9400 Fax

Make sure cartridges are part number 69 on all four or 68 on the black if its the high cap cart.

Also check the carts contacts and the machines contacts in the cartridge recetacle for contamination or damage.

Will not print black only. Changed ink cartridge 3 times, performed all maintenance repeatedly, but will still not print black ink.

Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent blocked print head nozzles. You may have blocked print head nozzles.
Try the printer maintenance to clear the printer nozzles.
After several deep cleaning attempts and there is no improvements in the print then a new print head is required. Also try - Removing the print head, run it under hot water for 2 mins, then let soak for 10 min. then used a can of compressed air to dry thoroughly. It may fix the blocked nozzles.
A new print head maybe expensive and it maybe more cost effective to purchase a new printer.

Replaced the ink cartridge now it will not print

*** I'll be more than happy to help you on that.
there is a great possibility that the nozzles of your printer are clogged by dried inks.maybe cause by the previous inks that you just replaced. we can check that by printing a nozzle check pattern.

Does not print

***hi there,il be willing to help you on that. ****
the nozzles of the printer might be clogged by dried inks thats why when your printing, its feeding the paper, as if its printing but no inks on the paper. print a nozzle check to see which part or color have clogs, if there are gaps or breaks, do head cleaning untill no more gaps then try printing.
Running a Printer Check
1. Load a few sheets of plain paper in the sheet feeder. 2. Turn off the Epson Stylus NX100 Series. 3. Hold down the nx100_tx100_ug.1.96.1.jpg Stop button as you press the nx100_tx100_ug.1.96.2.jpg On button to turn the Epson Stylus NX100 Series back on. Hold down both buttons until the nx100_tx100_ug.1.96.3.jpg On light begins to flash, then release the buttons. If there are gaps or the pattern is faint, clean the print head. If your printouts are unexpectedly light, or dots or lines are missing, you may need to clean the print head. This unclogs the nozzles so they can deliver ink properly. Print head cleaning uses ink, so clean it only if quality declines.
You can also clean the print head by holding down the stop button on the printer for three seconds. (This only works when the red ink light is off.) Run a nozzle check to confirm that the print head is clean.
Caution: When you don’t turn on your printer for a long time, print quality can decline, so turn it on and print a few pages at least once a month to maintain good print quality. ***if my troubleshooting steps are helpful, pls vote for me, i will appreciate it, so that I can be a part of fixya, thanks, Godbless****
