Check the basics first. Some of these suggestions may sound silly but I have done stuff like this.
Have you got something screwed to the tripod mount? This can overlap the door and stop it opening.
Have you dropped or bashed the camera recently?
Are you moving the door slide release in the correct direction? Check there is no damage visible on the camera or if there's anything trapped round the edge of the door jamming it?
Using a gentle but firm pressure with you thumb, press the door down into the 'closed' position. (I find sitting with the camera in my lap works best for this). Then use the slide release on the door. Release the pressure to see if the door has opened. You might need to roll your thumb round in flat circles to feel if the door is tight or slack when closed.
If this doesn't work or you have found some damage I would recommend you take it to a camera specialist as they will have the correct tools and skills to sort it out.
SOURCE: zoom lens stuck inside with cap open
Having read a post from May 19th 2006 in which moderate shaking was suggested, I tried it and it worked. http://www.fixya.com/support/t103741-lens_cover_stuck Comment by David Cainer, posted on May 19, 2006 There must be something mystical about this website. No sooner had I logged the problem, when I picked up the camera and felt something click inside it. I shook it moderately vigorously and the lens cover opened.
SOURCE: Battery inserted wrongly and now cannot remove
I used a fork and just placed it into one of the grooves in the battery.... But i placed my battery in upside down so there is a little groove. I kindof placed it in and pushed down on the other end of the fork. (like a lever)
Good luck!!!

SOURCE: Broken cover on a Fuji FinePix S5000
I think it will stay closed with painters tape or gaffer tape. this type of tape is blue or black. it is strong but not super sticky. I also have the same camera. my battery cover broke after the strap got stuck on a door handle to my office and the door kinda crunched it.
SOURCE: Fuji FinePix S9000 battery change clears date/time.
Hi
I started having a similar problem with my Fuji FinePix F10 after about 3 1/2 years of problem-free use. Another poster had some really helpful advice which I thought I'd pass on. It seems there is an internal battery or capacitor which basically fails after a while, meaning date/time settings etc are lost when the battery is removed. (Some people claim this is a motherboard/chip problem instead - seems to be contentious!) So the camera is faulty, but the problem can be worked around.
The advice I found, which worked for my camera, was this:
- Turn off camera and leave off for approx 15 seconds before opening battery door.
- Change battery quickly (within a few seconds).
- Close battery door and leave camera off for approx 15 secs before turning back on.
This retained all settings when I tested it multiple times. I imagine it might not work if changing over a totally dead battery though.
Hope it helps!
