SOURCE: My washer does not wash the clothes or go through the spin cycle.

It sound like a belt problem. Try to move tub manually first, in case it move smoothly -open the front panel, the belt should be between the motor and the drive pulley (lower front). In case it torn or not in its place, you should replace it. In case it doesn't move smoothly - maybe that a sock or other piece of clothing get between the clothes tub and the outer tub and prevent tub's spining. If this is the situation, it should be removed. Good luck !!

SOURCE: Agitator moves slowly on wash cycle/not at all on spin cycle

it sounds like the dogs are worn. try twisting the agitator post by hand,it should move freely in one direction then lock up going the other.its a pretty easy fix if they are.pry off the top of the agitator post off then remove the cap inside, there is a bolt that holds the post down.i'm pretty sure it's 7/16 in. once the bolt is loose, lift the whole agitator out of machine and with your hand inside post turn it upside downand let the dog holder slide out.watch how the dogs fit into the holder, replace with new dogs and reverse the removal process.
if the machine wont spin, check the lid switch. thats usually the cause of a no spin situation.other than that a wet vac is your best bet.hope that helps.

SOURCE: Agitator Not Working

My Hotpoint VBXR1090B top loading washing machine quit spinning during the rinse cycle and also quit agitating. The water filled up and drained just fine --no leaks.
Here's how I fixed it in 5-minutes.
Tools:

  1. Putty knife
  2. Nut driver - I used a multi-purpose screwdriver without any heads attached.
Procedure:
  1. Unplug washer from the electrical outlet for safety
  2. Release two spring clips holding the front panel on: Insert a putty knife 5" in from the side between the top and the front panel. Pull the front panel forwards.
  3. Unscrew 2 screws holding the top down.
  4. Lift top - it's somewhat hinged in the rear with three tabs inserted in control panel.
  5. The little red tab at the end of the lid switch should be between the lip of the opening and the top; not sitting on top of the lip as mine was.  It's thin enough steel to push it with your bare hands.
  6. Make sure when the lid closes it actually causes the switch to turn on. You should hear a click.
  7. Put everthing back together. Plug washer back in. Put your tools away.
  8. Voilà. Done. Easy.  Even a woman or a ****** could do it.

Amana top load washer completes fill water cycle then goes to wash but doesn't do anything. Both wash light and lid closed light stay on. I hear it click and a hum for for about 3 seconds but still nothing...

Does the lid lock? Also Could be the motor. Also could be the actuator that shifts transmission from agitate to spin. Also could be belt issue. Or maybe something wedged between inner and outer tubs. Call a professional unless you’re comfortable with checking all this out.

Wont spin, drain or agitate

the transmission is either burnt out or the freaky looking belt that turns the pump is off. or the switch that tells the unit that the top lid is down sometimes comes loose cause some companies used a caulk like substance to keep the foot attached to the switch as slid away from where it is and the lid is not pressing that foot down to close the circuit and tell the tranny its safe to spin etc. You can fill with the lid open but not spin. There is a motor that controls all the spinning and draining or agitation and if something in their design is opening the circuit it wont perform those functions.
another idea is the timer motor isn't making contact and you might have to replace that..... there are tons of issues that can cause that.

My washing machine fills up with water but does not continue the wash cycle. Sometimes when you slam the lid the washer will continue the wash cycle to the end. Other times the washer stays filled up...

Sounds like the lid safety switch is either out of adjustment, or needs replacement.

Most washers will fill with the lid open, but no continue a cycle where the drum or agitator spin, unless it senses the lid is closed.

Whirlpool model # LLR6144BQ1 water fills but will not go to wash cycle.

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.
This is usually caused by a failed lid switch that is item 9 this link:
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=256996

First off put the washer in the spin cycle. With the lid closed see if the washer will spin. No spin also = bad lid switch. If the washer spins but will not agitate then the problem is most likely the water level pressure switch or associated air tubing. (any air leaks and it will not stop filling)
Water level switch is item 12 here:
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=256996&diagram_id=28209075#d28209075
We test these with NO WATER in the machine and after connecting an external hose with the lid closed with power on by orally passing air into the small air hose we connected. It will click and the washer must agitate. If it clicks and does not agitate... again it points to the lid switch. Disconnecting this water level switch hose with ater in the maching and then re-connecting the hose WILL result in the machine overflowing. Tub MUST be empty.

You check the lid switch as you just open or close the lid. You should hear an audible CLICK as the lid is barely off of its closed position and again as the lid is almost closed. NO CLICK = bad door switch.

These are the 2 most common reasons that will correct the symptom your experiencing more than 90 percent of the time. There is a remote possibility that there is a problem with the motor / motor clutch. Motor clutch problems are noted by odd noises when motor is running and it will not spin or agitate. If the motor will spin the machine but will not agitate the machine it can be a motor winding.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Agitator starts at begining of cycle before washer is full

Please be carful as running the agitator without enough water will overheat and kick out the motor, however it should be ok when it resets itself.
Yes, the machine should stop agitating when you lift the lid so this too is part of the problem.
After looking at the print I can only suggest that the cam contacts in the timer ( contacts 12 and 14) that start the motor are burned and stuck together.
