Unit has to run long enough for temps to stabilize. Usually 24 hours.

SOURCE: Amana Top Freezer Refrigerator is hot to the touch on the outside on the sides by the freezer. Still working fine inside. Is something getting ready to break inside?

The problem was the fan. It was hitting the metal enclosure and had stopped working. We made an adjustment and cleaned it and now it works fine and the hot spots are gone.

SOURCE: Express Thaw comes on when refrigerator door is closed

We have a GE Profile side-by-side refrigerator which we purchased in 2002, Model PSS25NGNACC. Today we had a repairman come to investigate why the Express Thaw 3lb. light was on and could not be shut off. If shut off, it came on again when the door was closed and reopened. The repairman called GE and learned that this light was an air filter change indicator which turns on at some interval (2 years, they said, although we don't remember ever seeing this before). The air filter involved is for the interior of the fridge and is not critical. GE said that newer master control boards have this function disabled, since people rarely changed the filter and GE no longer makes them. I have read our user manual cover to cover and find nothing on this filter. I guess we just have to pay the $70 dollars to have someone come and call GE to figure it out. But, enough of that. To reset the indicator, simultaneously press the following keys on the touchpad and hold for 5 seconds until it beeps:

Adjust Freezer Temp (Warmer)
Express Thaw
Adjust Refrigerator Temp (Colder)

Lights and functions should return to normal.

SOURCE: I have a GSS25WST side by side

The door light switch controls the evaporator fan which circulates the air through out the unit properly. Replace the bad switch and things should go back to normal. WR23x10161 at about 10.00. Good luck. Rick

SOURCE: Hi, I have a GE

Hi Mark and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly

Touch the front of the unit where the doors close and feel if it is very very warm to the touch. If it is very warm to the touch... here are the prime suspects:
1. condenser coils covered in lint
2. condenser fan not running or running slow.

An easy way to determine if there is a condenser fan or coil fan problem is to simply direct a floor fan at the base if the refrigerator. If it cools down substantially in an hour.... there is a problem with the coils being clogged or the condenser fan not running. If that makes no difference... before opening the back of the unit... inspect the back wall of the freezer compartment for any signs of ice build up. If you see ice-build up.... unplug the unit.. remove freezer contents and direct that fan into the freezer compartment for just over 2 hours. Then return the unit to normal service.... If the temps come down to normal... for 2 - 3 days then start creeping up again... you have an automatic defrosting problem.

Forgot to mention... make sure the evaporator fan is running at full speed.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Frigidaire Refrigerator PLHT219SCB9... Freezer will not shut off.. cold.. ice maker very slow..

Hello Myles, thank you for your post!

Based off the information you have provided your Frigidaire refrigerator is not shutting off and it is making ice very slowly. If your refrigerator is too cold ice production will slow down. I would recommend turning your refrigerator up to the factory setting of 0 degrees inside the freezer and 37 degrees in the fresh food side. You may also have an issue with the thermostat and I would suggest performing a reset to help clear out any miscommunications within your refrigerator. In order to reset your refrigerator you would need to unplug the power cord for at least ten minutes. I hope this information is helpful. -Matt

Freezer on side by side is not working properly

Good Morning Friend,

I understand the freezer portion is not working properly on your Frigidaire refrigerator, model# GLRS234ZA. I suggest resetting your appliance, by either unplugging it or shutting the power off at your home's circuit breaker, for 3-5 minutes. Restore power and make sure the temperatures are set to 0 degrees for the freezer and 37 for the refrigerator. Give your refrigerator 24 hours to stabilize at the set temperatures. I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if your appliances status has changed successfully. Fridgidaire refrigerator flashing error code 4

From what I remember a flashing 4 means "damper error". Send your model number found inside or on the outside of the fresh food section, The air damper is found between the freezer and fresh food section and regulates temperature in the fresh food section by opening wide for things that warm up your fresh food section example would be opening the door and letting warm air inside . The damper then closes to keep the right temperature. If you have questions please ask, Thanks Sea Breeze
