SOURCE: i have a lionel legacy cab-2 remote i hooked up

just unplug the transformer from the grey box (the one with the green light and red light) and check the voltage. if it doesn't read anything, try unplugging the transformer from the outlet and plugging it back in again. if you get a reading, replug the transformer to the grey box and check the voltage of the silver screws (where you put the + and - wires from the track to) and try using the train again

SOURCE: CANNOT GET THE UNCOUPLING TRACK SECTION TO WORK

Track power is not recommended for this uncoupler. Use an aux fixed supply of at least 10 to 13VAC for the supply. You have to move a jumper on the bottom of the track to do this. Then there will be four wires needed. Two for the aux power (hot and common) and the other two which go to the pushbutton switch.

Note: Same goes for Lionel FasTrack Remote switches. Run the switches from a 10 to 12 VAC aux supply. There is a jumper you remove on the bottom of the switch to connect an aux supply.

SOURCE: Purchased a Lionel New York

The magnet may not have enough punch using track power. Recommend you use an aux power source fixed 10 to 13VAC supply and not track power. There may also be a slight + difference between the track magnet head and the plate on the coal car so that there is insufficient force to release the dump mechanism.

It sounds as though you may have two defective transformers. Lionel has reported problems with some of their smaller transformers. I would have the transformers and the engines checked by a Lionel service station or contact their customer service department for help.
