Hi Andrew.
Hang the feeder approximately 5 feet above the ground, Make sure there is no foliage underneath that would encourage unwelcome guests, like mice, squirrels and even cats, to feed on the sugar water. If you wish to hang multiple hummingbird feeders, locate the feeders at least 10 to 12 feet apart.2.

I feed Humming Birds all year round. My question is during these hot dry months what do they eat when there are not any feeders? All local flowers and flowering weeds have long dryed out and died.

They come just after the spring flowers and stay with us until their food sources dry up. This is nature's signal to them that it is time to move on to a different climate., (South for the winter.)
They go to the tree tops and to the feeders of compassionate friends until cooler nights, shorter days and the last fall flowers signal it is time to go. (The birds that stop by your feeders on these evenings, probably are clutching little suitcases with their tiny feet.) Time to care enough to let them go be with their friends

What are backyard birds?

Backyard birds are birds who visit your backyard. Which birds visit your backyard depends on where you live, the environment, and what foods may be available. Some birds will eat from feeders while, others only eat from the ground or from fruit/flower trees/bushes.

Several years ago, I created a wild bird garden for my mother in S. Florida. I have 20+ feeders, 3 water fountains, and a few trees/plants including, mango tree, hibiscus, berries, and more. We are visited daily by dozens of Monk parakeets aka Quaker Parrots, Blue Crown Parrots, Blue Jays, Cardinals, Doves, Cardinals, and more!

I can answer most questions about backyard birding (i.e.; foods, types of birds) for anyone interested in this hobby!
