Can you hear anything coming from the mirror? Is only one working? If so, its possible that your mirror motor has died on you. If you're not hearing anything from both sides, I would check the fuse and voltage going to the fuse. If that's good then you could either check wiring from mirror motors to the module. I believe the controller is the general module located under the front passenger kick panel. Or you could also swap out the switch block for the mirror assembly as you could return that. Replacing the programming the GM will burn it to your vehicle.
the cable that controls the mirror is more than likely broken or if it's gear driven the gear is stripped or broke. I would first try to take the switch apart and clean it
There is a small allen head set screw in the bracket. You will need a proper size allen wrench to loosen the screw, then the mirror should slide off the windshield mounted bracket.
