I watched the washer go through a complete wash cycle. Everything looks fine until it gets ready to do a spin cycle. the water drains out okay. But then it beeps and displays UL, even without anything in it. The clutch pawl retracts, and then reengages the ratchet. The machine then sits there doing nothing for a few minutes before throwing the UL error code. Any ideas on what the problem is and how to fix it?
Take the 4 screws out of the top section, lift up the whole top. You will see a bar. You must lift the top so the bar raises above the drum. Take the screws out of the plastic cover and check the bar .it has 2 round ends that rest in two holes. If it came out of one simply place it back in the hole. You will hear it click when pressing it. Put back together. Problem solved.
is the bar supposed to just hang? Or is there supposed to be some sort of spring attached?

Thank you so much for providing your solution, Guy!! I created an account just to say thank you. If it wasn't for your post I definitely wouldn't have figured this out as I thought the problem was somewhere on the bottom of the machine and not in the top cover.
Kathy, yes, that metal bar is supposed to be suspended like that, it isn't attached to anything from the bottom. It serves as a safety mechanism if the tub gets imbalanced while spinning so if it gets hit strong enough, it comes out of the plastic piece it's attached to which disables the spinning mechanism. I only found this out after following Guy's instructions and was able to place it back into that plastic bracket(?) and now my machine spins normally as it did before.
Thanks again!!
thanks guy your solution is right on the mark works perfect now !!
Thank you so much @Guy your solution to this problem worked perfectly!
Hello and Thanks in advance for helping out with your expertise.
@Guy: Same problem with my Haier HLP24E washer. Removed the top plastic cover inside and saw that the bar in the lop left backside was out of the 2 holes and put it back in the 2 holes. There is a spring that came out too and I am not sure where/how that spring should sit to make the bar press against the switch. Without the spring and with the bar placed in the 2 holes when I restart the rinse cycle it does not spin. When I press the bar from the backside so it clicks to the button and if hold it with a stick and start the rinse cycle it works. So I think somehow the bar should keep the switch pressed to allow spinning? correct?
Do you have a picture of how the spring should sit with the bar? Could you please share and help out. Thanks,
@Mike K : I see you resolved your issue similarly. Do you have a pic of how the bar sits in the holes and the spring position? Could you please share ? Thanks.

I have the same problem they can not fix it so dont waste your money on a repair guy they just run it through a dianostic test and tell you that you are no using the machine properly

Solved the unbalanced problem - open the top of the machine (press in with a flat putty knife about 3" in on the front on each side while lifting up as there are 2- 1" wide catches). Once both sides are unlatched, raise the lid then slightly lift the rear of the lid so that it fits into the curved part at the top of the hinges then open all the way - tape the lid to the top so it doesn't flap about and scotch the lid to keep it from falling back down on you. Now, look around - see all that rust? The rust has fallen into and gotten underneath one or more of the 4 white plastic suspension "ball joints" which have probably totally dried out by now from their factory grease because of the water, bleach, and rust particles. Having someone help you, simply lift up on one of the 4 corner suspension rods - gravity and weight is all that holds them down. The white ball will lift out of the socket and still be attached to the rod. Clean out the rust, lightly sand the "socket" with emery cloth, then slop in a fingerful of grease. I used automotive wheel bearing grease with graphite in it. Also scrub off all embedded rust on the white plastic ball. Lower that corner back into the newly cleaned and greased socket and repeat for the other 3 corners. Now when you move the tub around notice how the balls pivot in their sockets like they are supposed to. When they were dry and rusty they wouldn't move enough to allow the tub to twist like it should so it slammed around. Now, shake your head in disgust that after only 2 years there is so much rust that you wonder if it will make it another year before falling apart, close the lid, and try another load. That totally solved my off-balance problem where even a single handkerchief would give the UL error. It is still a finicky machine, but at least once again works like it did when new.

take the lid off attached to the inlet valve to the dispenserr you will see a little white mechanisim in line with them. this is called your flowmeter take it off and blow through it is should sound like a cazoo. put it back on and try to do a wash cycle. if this doesn't help you need a new flowmeter. also if you take the kick panel off you will find the tech sheet to help you diagnose this problem.

Did you ever figure this out?
Exactly same problem happened to me after unbalanced spin and UL code. Reasoned that the tub hit something inside. Finally figured out what was wrong. Open back panel (6 screws), and find a grey metal bar at right/upper corner (hidden, get a flash light). When the bar gets hit by an unbalanced tub, it switches off spinning. Move the bar forward and reverse, and you can hear click sound. The bar has to keep press the tiny button (you don't need to disassemble the washer to look at the button, I did it). Fundamental solution would be changing the torsion spring linked to the metal bar. After you hear click sound, give it a try if it fixes the problem. Good luck.
Any success with fixing spinning issue?
I have found the bar which was loose and put it back in place, but I had to hold it foward with my hand to keep it up against the switch to tell the tub to spin. If I let go it stops. Am I missing a piece?
so there should be a spring attached to the bar ? Where does the other end of the spring attach?
Thank you so much @Guy your solution to this problem worked perfectly!
Hello @Kathy Joshua : Were you able to resolve the bar/spring issue? I am able to put the bar back into the 2 holes but can't figure out where the spring goes. Could you please provide me with any spring position pictures or steps to follow. Thanks.
I couldn't figure out where the spring goes either. I got rid of the bar completely and put a piece of electrical tape over the little button that the bar is supposed to hold down. In 5 years I never got an uneven load error until that bar came off so not too worried about it
