Not that important except for selling the bike, but if you really need to know then Google "Trek serial number" or "Trek 8000". Not possible to ID with just serial number. For more info see my T How to determine the year value etc of your bicycle

They ought to. Bicycle components are quite universal. You may run into a part or two which won't fit (front derailleurs have to fit frame design [especially on full-suspension bikes] as well as tube diameter), and you must bear in mind that the geometry of the new frame will most assuredly be different, so your handlebars and stem may no longer be familiar or comfortable to you. Good luck!

It is a YZ80D 1977...first link below is a Yamaha VIN cross reference if you want to verify. (a lot of scrolling)
As your VIN is only 9 digits, this indicates a pre 1982, when a universal 13 digit VIN was adopted, then soon after our current 17 digit VIN.
(please note: I'm assuming the VIN is from the plate on frame and not the crankcase serial number as engines are easily swapped)
Second link appeared amongst a search and indicates a 1992 model. This may be the basis of the problem your encountering.
Third link is a Yamaha decoder I've used successfully (17#) try it or check the Yamaha Corp. link therein.
Cheers.

Hi
Trek's serial numbers are on the underside of the bottom bracket. Flip the bike over and read the letters and numbers. It will look like this :
9000697000480
This would be a Trek 9000, made in June 1997 and number 480 off the production line.
Hope this makes sense and you can decipher your bike. Vote for me if this helps, thanks.
