Sounds like you have a wire shorted in the stator , it may be pinched to ground.

SOURCE: pontiac sunfire

I had that problem last year. I bought a new starter but it was not the correct one for my car. For the 98 there are two different starters. I bought the wrong one the first time. My step father started to put it one and realized it was not the same as the one he just pulled off. Ending up taking it with us when we returned the orginial one I bought. The orginial one I bought was about $70 the correct one was $400. The auto store did not have the correct one listed as a replacement part. Until the number off of the part was keyed into the system and found out that it was just not the common replacement part.

I have a 97 polaris xlt 600 triple that now hard to start and seems to flood very easily and sometimes backfires. I have spark on all 3 plugs.

Check the diaphragms in the fuel pump most likely flooding through the engine pulse tube from the crankcase.

Would just like some reference points to go from on adjusting the throttle cable to sync carbs up really close

You do not adjust the throttle cable, you adjust the idle speed hard stop screws with a carburetor manometer hooked up to the vacuum sync port on each carb.

No spark on a 1995 polaris xlt 600

Could be a bad cdi box. Ive this problem with my xlt when I go for a ride, stop to eat and head back out to go home it won't start. I've usually had to choke it, and pull until it starts. My issue is carb settings. If you don't have spark I'd try replacing your cdi. If you know someone with the same sled try there's.

My 1995 polaris xlt 600 triple has no spark what could be wrong

COULD BE THE THROTTLE SAFETY SWITCH OR THE STATOR. CHECK TO SEE IF IT HAS SPARK AT OPEN THROTTLE, IF SO IT IS THE THROTTLE SAFETY SWITCH. THEN IF U PICK UP A MANUAL IT WILL WALK YOU THROUTH THE TESTS FOR ALL THE OTHER CONPONENTS.
THERE ARE MANY THINGS THAT CAN CAUSE NO SPARK.

Polaris xlt 1994 hey i start up me sled let it warm up then i push on the gas and it wants to die out solution??

I have a 1996 polaris xlt 600. I changed the coils, spark plugs, cdi box, put fresh gas, and did a compression check on motor witch read 98 across the board. I also rebuilt the carbs and they were tuned. My problem with this sled is when it gets warmed up the motor dogs out. could it be the water pump making this happen?

1997 Polaris XLT Triple. Do I really need to pull

I have 1995 and a 1997 XLT. i have rebuilt the recoil on the 95 and all it takes is the few bolts to take off the cover and take the pipe off. if the 97 is any thing like my dads 94, you may have to pull the engine up a bit, the bottom left bolt cant fully be backed out with out hitting the side of the belly pan retainer, all it takes to pull the motor up is one nut in the back of the motor mount, and one bolt off the front, and it will tip up enough
