the ADF is the automatic document feeder the part on top of the machine that you insert the paper to Automatically feed the paper in one at a time, there may already be a document on the glass lift the top and put it back down it should clear

It sounds like the paper jam is in the fixing assembly, and you can not access it unless you take it to a service center for canon products.
