What you are looking for is the Ring Count Delay.

Unfortunately it looks as though this is not an option for this unit.
Here is the manual for the MP C4501.

SOURCE: Will not auto detect incoming faxes

Review the information below to determine why faxes cannot be sent or received. Review the symptoms below carefully and then select the symptom that best fits your problem. If the solution links you to a different document that does not resolve the problem, return to this document to continue troubleshooting. The fax machine doesn't receive or send a fax and prints an error report (bpu02549). Faxes cannot be received but they can be sent . Faxes cannot be sent but they can be received . Faxes fail intermittently or with only one fax number . Faxes cannot be sent or received or you're not sure of the problem . Faxes cannot be received but they can be sent Review the information below to determine why faxes are not being received. Phone company services: Do you have any of the following telephone line services from your telephone company: Voice Mail, Privacy Block, Security Screen, Anonymous Call Rejection, and Privacy Manager. These phone services are meant to prevent unwanted calls, but they will also stop faxes. Contact your telephone company for their recommended solution for receiving faxes on the same line with these services. If you wish to receive faxes automatically, verify that automatic answering is enabled on models that have an Auto Answer button, or that the Rings to Answer setting is set to a number equal to or larger than one for models that do not have an Auto Answer button. On models with an Answer Mode setting, it should be set to Fax, FaxTel, or AnswerMachine depending on your setup. If you have a HP PSC 2200 or an Officejet 6100 that interrupts calls or will not receive faxes, download and install the HP Firmware update for these products. Visit the HP Support and Drivers Home page . Select Download drivers and software. Type in your model number (HP PSC 2210xi for example). Click the search arrow to the right of the text entry box. You may be asked to select your product from a list of models. On the software download page, select your Windows version. Locate and select the firmware update. Follow the directions to download and install the update. If an answering machine is connected to the same line, fax reception problems can occur. These problems may be corrected by changing settings or phone line connections. For more information on using a TAM or distinctive ring service, go to Using the HP All-in-One and Fax Products with a Telephone Answering Machine (bpu04072). If you have a PBX phone system, or an ISDN or DSL modem connected to the line, there may be some phone line configuration problems. Fax machines are analog devices and cannot be used on a digital phone service such as those used in many businesses (PBX systems). Install an analog phone line for a fax machine. Refer to document Using an HP All-in-One or Fax Product on a PBX, ISDN, or DSL Phone System (bpu50333) to learn how to correct these problems.

SOURCE: Ricoh 1013F Fax Line answering phone calls

"user tools", scroll to....."fax features", scroll to "setup", scroll to "no. of rings"
Set the appropriate number of rings to not conflict with Voice mail, etc...usually 4 will do, but just test the phone and fax after you set it up, to make sure it is ok. You can test it by calling it from your cell phone, or a land line (on another line), in other words, you don't have to wait for a fax, just dial the fax number and see when the fax picks up, then try the phone number etc.

Wont pick up, just rings & rings.

There are multiple reception modes that a fax machine can be in. The default mode is "Auto" and should answer automatically after a predetermined amount of rings. It has probably been switched to "Manual" mode by accident and therefore rings and never picks up. Look for a Reception Mode or RCV Mode button on the machine and press it until the proper mode is established.

Ricoh fax 120 please let me know how to put ricoh on automatic fax receiving while not in the office also when someone rings i can hear the fax sound from my ricoh

1. Press the [F2] key. “ this key is located on the left side of the Control Panel next to the key [12] from the left side and next to the [Memory Trans.] key from the rigt side ”
2. Press the left arrow key to select the reception mode “ this key is located under the Display of the Control Panel”
3. Press the [OK] key when on the display is displayed the mode you want.
note:as you sad you want the machine to reaceive faxes when you are out of the office, so the reception mode [Auto Select] is the most compaible mode for you.
The machine can treat incoming fax
messages and telephone calls in three
ways.
1.Manual Receive
- Use this mode if your line is shared
by a fax machine and a telephone
but you wish to answer all calls
yourself and decide whether they
are fax documents or telephone
calls. You must manually press the
[Start] key to receive a fax.
The machine will ring continuously
until you answer the call, so you
have to be near the machine at all
times. The Manual Receive indicator
is lit when the machine is in this
mode.
2. Auto Receive
- Use this mode if you have a dedicated
fax line. The machine assumes
all calls are fax documents.
It will ring once to alert you of an
incoming call, and then starts receiving.
3. Auto Select
- In this mode, the machine rings a
number of times. You can answer
the call while the machine is ringing.
If you do not answer the call,
the machine automatically changes
to receive fax messages.

Fax answer machine

FAX RECEPTION THROUGH AN ANSWERING MACHINE:
This mode is recommended for a shared fax and telephone line.
To receive a fax if your All-In-One is connected to an answering machine:
On the control panel, press Fax.
Set the answering machine to answer incoming calls before the All-In-One does. For example, if you have set the answering machine to answer calls after 3 rings, set the All-In-One to answer calls after 5 rings.
To change this setting on the All-In-One:
Press Options until Number of rings appears.
Press the right arrow (+) until After 5 rings appears.
Press Select.
Make sure the Auto Answer light on the All-In-One is on. When a ring is detected, the answering machine picks up the call.
If a fax is detected, the All-In-One receives the fax, and disconnects the answering machine.
If a fax is not detected, the answering machine completes the call.

How do i get my fax to answer only after 6 rings

Luckily, you can choose to answer at up to 9 rings. It's in Function Parameters, Function 45 "Ring Detect Count". You can change that number from 1 through 9.

Entering function mode:
Function + 7
Hit "Monitor" 4 times
Hit " * "(star)
Press "1" for Function Parameters
Scroll through, or type "45" to get to that parameter.
Hit enter/Start to change.
