SOURCE: I'm trying to enter this

Use the (-) key just to the right of the decimal point, not the - key. The latter is for subtraction.

TI-83 plus problem

Hello,
The calculator has limitations. No matter what number of decimal places you specify in the floating mode format, If the absolute value of the number is less than 0.001 the number is displayed in scientific format :
[digit][.][digt][digit] ...up to [digit9] [E][-][2 digit exponent].
Here are somme screen capture that show you that.

As you can see the two screens overlap. Floating mode is set to 4 decimal places. As long as the absolute value is less than 0.001, the number is displayed in scientific format. However when that absolute value exceeds 0.001 the display reverts to the floating mode format you want.

When you manipulate very small or very large numbers, the floating point format cannot be used because of the limitations of the screen.
In this last screen capture Floating mode is set at 9 decimal places. I entered the electron charge. The line is pretty full.

Hope it clarifies things for you

Will not receive fax Will not send fax Will not copy Has error Message 76 on monitor

Machine error 76 is a bad fuser lamp.Sometimes the machines will give a false code and can be reset. Unplug machine. Hold down the Menu key while powering back up. You should still get a Machine error message. Enter the number 9...The display should change to Maintenance 9 then enter 1. The Machine error will return. Enter 99 and then make a test print. If you get either a machine error 76 or 78 you will need to have service done on your machine to have either the lamp or thermistor replaced, and depending on the usage of the machine, it might not be a bad idea to replace the entire fuser.

1.19x10-4=?

You can download the guidebook for this calculator from TI here.

From page 16:
To enter a number in scientific notation:
1) Enter up to 10 digits for the base (mantissa). If negative, press the +/- key. (The key has two curvy arrows between the + and - but I can't do that on my keyboard.)
2) Press the EE key.
3) Enter a 1 or 2-digit exponent. If negative, press +/- either before or after entering exponent.

They give the example 1.2345 +/- EE +/- 65 which would display -1.2345 -65.
