SOURCE: fax does not connect on distinctive ring

Make sure that you have assigned it correctly. You should get a completion indicator or some kind of notification saying that the ring has been assigned to the specific location you ordered. if not, i will not be assigned correctly and it will go back to the default ring.. hope that helps ya:)

SOURCE: Incoming faxes not received, all else works.

Hi there,

It is your phone answering machine that must pick up in three rings or less.

Therefore 4 is too much. I would not limit number for fax machine itself.

On receipt of fax sometimes seems like it will not work when answering machine picks up in the middle. However, leave it and it will work. Sometimes sender will hear your answering machine and cancel as well. So try to ensure they don't give up at other end as well.

Good Luck!

SOURCE: how to set machine to receive incoming fax?

Receive a fax
You can receive faxes automatically or manually. If you turn off the Auto Answer option,
you must receive faxes manually. If you turn on the Auto Answer option (the default
setting), the device automatically answers incoming calls and receives faxes after the
number of rings that are specified by the Rings to Answer setting. (The default Rings to Answer setting is five rings.)

My hp 1040 will not pick up fax after the fifth ring answering machine picks after forth ring can't tell the between phone call or a fax used to before changed date on answering machine fax quite working

Set rings to answer
You can select the number of rings that will occur before the fax answers an incoming call. If you are using your machine as both a telephone and a fax machine, we suggest you set the ring count to at least 4 to give you time to answer.
TIP: HP 1050 Fax: The Toll Saver function for the Digital Message Center interacts with Rings to Answer. See Toll Saver on page 40. If you have the HP 1050 Fax and have Toll Saver turned on, set the Rings to Answer to 2.
1. Press Menu repeatedly until BASIC FAX displays and press Start/Enter.
Rings to Answer will display.
2. Press Start/Enter.
3. Enter the number of rings you want (2-7) and press Start/Enter.
The HP Fax rings the set number of times and then answers. It then produces a different sounding ring to alert you to which type of call is incoming.
• The additional ring may occur once for a fax call
• The additional ring occurs 5 times for a voice call. After the 5 additional rings, the answering machine will answer.

How do i set up fax to automaticely receive faxes after several rings

For a phone line dedicated only to the fax machine, the process is as follows:
  1. Press Menu/Set, 0, 1.
  2. You will see the Fax Receive window
  3. Use UP and DOWN arrows to change the setting to FAX ONLY
  4. Press Menu/Set.
  5. Press STOP/EXIT
Your fax machine will now answer every incoming call.
If the fax machine is sharing the phone line with a telephone, repeat the above steps and change from FAX ONLY to FAX/TEL This option will allow you to share the line with a phone only, not an answering machine. Once in FAX/TEL mode, the fax machine will still grab every incoming FAX call, and give a special ring (slightly different than a regular telephone ring) when it's a regular incoming phone call signaling you to answer the phone. I hope this helps with your problem. Best of luck!

Canon Fax Phone

It sounds like Tel/Fax mode is not set, but that the machine is likely in Fax Only mode. The JX200 has four modes of fax receipt - Fax/Tel, Manual, Answering Machine, and Fax Only. The Fax/Tel mode, which you have indicated is your desire, is meant to let the fax machine automatically switch between fax and voice calls. Documents are received automatically, and the machine rings for voice calls.

Set the mode by pressing [Receive Mode/Resolution]. Every time you press [Receive Mode/Resolution], the mode changes cyclically. If you set Fax/Tel mode, you can control precisely how the fax handles incoming calls by adjusting the following settings:
• Adjust the time the fax takes to check whether a call is from a fax machine or a telephone (<RING START TIME> setting).
• Adjust the length of time the fax rings when the call is a voice call (<TEL RING TIME> setting).
• Set whether the fax switches to receive mode after the ring time set in <TEL RING TIME> has elapsed (<DEFAULT ACTION> setting).
1. Press [Menu].
2. Use arrows to select <DATA REGISTRATION>, then press [Start/Copy]. The LCD displays <USER SETTINGS>.
3. Use arrows to select <RX SETTINGS>, then press [Start/Copy]. The LCD displays <ECM RX>.
4. Use arrows to select <FAX/TEL AUTO SW>, then press [Start/Copy]. The LCD displays <RING START TIME>.
5. Press [Start/Copy]. The LCD displays <8SEC.>
6. Use the numeric buttons, or arrows to enter the time the fax waits before ringing when it receives a call, then press [Start/Copy] twice. (This is the time the machine spends checking for a fax signal before ringing for the call to be answered as a telephone call.)
7. Use the numeric buttons, or arrows to enter the time the fax rings while waiting for someone to pick up the Handset, then press [Start/Copy] twice. The LCD displays <RECEIVE>.
8. Use arrows to select <RECEIVE> or <DISCONNECT>, then press [Start/Copy]. This setting tells the fax what to do if the Handset is not picked up within the specified ring time set in step 6.
9. Press [Stop].
Setting ends and the fax returns to standby mode. The machine will now handle calls as indicated in the settings you input.

Have to be near fax machine to recieve fax

The Rings to Answer feature might not be set to answer after the
appropriate number of rings for your office setup.
If you have a voice mail service at the same phone number you use
for fax calls, you must receive faxes manually, not automatically. For
information on how to receive faxes manually, see receive a fax
manually from a phone
on page 48.
If you have a PC modem on the same phone line with your
HP Officejet, check to make sure that the modem’s software is not
set to receive faxes automatically. Modems with this auto fax
receive feature turned on will take over the phone line to receive all
incoming faxes, which will prevent the HP Officejet from receiving
fax calls.
If you have an answering machine on the same phone line with
your HP Officejet, you might have one of the following problems:
Your outgoing message might be too long or too loud to allow
the HP Officejet to detect fax tones, and the calling fax machine
might disconnect.
Your answering machine might not have enough quiet time after
your outgoing message to allow the HP Officejet to detect fax
tones. This problem is more common with digital answering
machines.
The following actions might help solve these problems:
a. Disconnect the answering machine and then try receiving a fax.
If faxing is successful without it, the answering machine might
be causing the problem.
b. Reconnect the answering machine and re-record your outgoing
message. Make sure the message is as short as possible (no
more than 10 seconds long), and that you speak softly and
slowly when recording it. Try again to receive a fax.
If you have a special ring pattern for your fax phone number (using
a distinctive ring service through your telephone company), make
sure that the Answer Ring Pattern feature on your HP Officejet is set
to match. For example, if the phone company has assigned your
fax number a double ring pattern, make sure Double Rings is
selected as the Answer Ring Pattern setting. For information on
changing this setting, see change the answer ring pattern
(distinctive ringing)
on page 63.
Note that some ring patterns cannot be recognized by the
HP Officejet, such as those with alternating short and long ringing
patterns. If you are having problems with a ring pattern of this type,
ask your phone company to assign a non-alternating ring pattern.
