I had a pregnant guinea pig which just died today very suddenly. We had her on a proper diet including alfalfa hay, but she went well past her due date which was over a week ago, still not birthing anything, but acting normal and seemingly healthy. The only noticible difference we notice was that she would drink a lot more water than normal, but still had the same eating habits. We checked on her the night before and found her dead the next morning, so all happening very suddenly and unsuspecting. Are there any ideas of what could have caused the death?? Do you think it dealt with pregnancy complications such as pregnancy toxemia or ketosis? Or perhaps a different issue since there were really no red flags of anything wrong with her beside the abnormal intake of drinking water. Any thoughts on this? Thank you!
Sorry you lost your friend. Hwere is an article about guinea pigs that may help you find the answer.

How old was she? Going past her due date by a week may not have been the cause (I had a female that delivered two weeks late!), but without a veterinarian doing a post-mortem exam, there's really no way to know. Guinea pigs are very good at hiding health problems until they are critical, so there's a possibility she could have developed ketosis without showing it.

I'm really sorry about this. Maybe she was sick or ate something. If you allowed her to walk in the garden she could eat some grass or fruit. And why the pregnancy complications. I am very concerned about the health of my Guinea pig and monitor its nutrition. When she tried strawberries, I reread all the articles on the Internet and found the most suitable onehttps://petpls.com/can-guinea-pigs-eat-g... They can have strawberries and even need them. And I advise you to get another pet, so that you can quickly forget about the previous one.
