Defrost problem.

Hi, It's a common problem with no-frost refrigerators, you have a defrost problems, two scenarios. (1) hot air entering freezer/refrigerator, examples. hot summer days, regular openings, high room temperatures, hot foods and broken door gasket, leaving freezer/refrigerator doors slightly open overnight, could cause your evaporator (coils) to freeze/ice up. cases like this, unplug/disconnect your refrigerator, remove produce, clean and let it defrost, for an hour, make sure all ice melted. plug or reconnect your refrigerator let it work/ run empty for another hour, then put back your produce. sure it will work perfect for the next 3-4 days. (2) next type of defrost problem could be faulty defrost heater, defrost thermostat, you will have to open back panel on freezer side to check. check your defrost heaters, defrost thermostat and defrost timer, it's better to change defrost timer and defrost thermostat together, or change faulty ones independently. but before you change any parts, clean and defrost refrigerator first, could just be regular openings, hot days, etc. if after 3-4 days it started to ice up, then check following parts. defrost heater. defrost thermostat and defrost timer, let me know if icing occurs after 3-4 days then we can check those parts i suggested. remember to always disconnect/unplug your refrigerator, before attempting any repairs. good luck

if the freezer is cold and the fridge is not then it can be several things. The freezer could have a bunrt out defrost heater, defrost timer faulty, fan not working in the freezer??. all of these things will stop your fridge getting cold, but your freezer will still be around minus 9 deg c. you wont get any air into the fridge as the coil in the freezer is prob all iced over. Dont worry about the heat on the door frame as it is only the anti sweat heater

That's the defrost heater. The defrost sensor has failed. The freezer has to be taken apart to find the sensor. It is usually round, with a couple of wires going to it.

After they replaced the part did they defrost the unit. there is probably ice build up on the coil behind the service panel in the freezer compartment. If the defrost control was the part replaced you can probably push the refrigerator side light switch in and out 5-6 times and force a defrost. if the unit goes into defrost then all the components are fine and you just need to manually defrost the coil either by off loading all food and leaving the unit off for 4-6 hours with doors open. of offloading freezer side remove rear access cover in freezer exosing evaporator coils and use a hairdryer to defrost the ice accumulation. good luck Peyton

remove the baskets and shelves in the freezer and remove the rear panels after shutting the fridge down. If you see heavy frost on the coils then the defrost model needs replaced. If not, check the that the fans runs, and then that the thermostat works and then that the damper that allows the air to the fridge compartment is opening correctly.

Check to see if the bacl of the fridge is iced over, if it is the fridge is not defrosting, 99% of the time it is the defrost control circuit board located in the upper right hand corner of the fridge.

The problem you describe is caused by the hot gas pipe that runs around the cabinet, this is normal for it too get warm, the only reason it would be very hot is that for some reason the gases are not being cooled, probable cause is that the condenser is blocked with dust or fluff, depending on axact version some are located behind the plastic trim that runs below the doors and others are in the back behind the lower rear panel. sjlobo, sounds like your defrost drain pan is frozen over or has some gunk in it. When the unit goes into defrost the water is running onto the freezer floor and out the front. Remove the lower bin and check the drain hole. You may have to remove the freezer back panel. If you can, just use some very hot water and some sort of baster to unfreeze the drain.
