How do I test the Pitco Frialator 35CS high limit switch

  • lpkfjk Jul 25, 2009

Yes pilot lights; fryer goes up to requird temp and shuts off. Pilot also goes out. Sometimes high temp switch has to be reset.

Remove connections from hi-limit switch, and put an ohm-meter across connections then heat it with a match or heat source of that temp range, heat the face and watch your meter it will show open when hi limit reaches cutoff limit/if you need exact cutout temp, you will need to have one of those digital read-out temp gun

How do I jump/bypass the high limit switch?

Hi there.
Hi limits can be bypassed by connecting jumper wire from common to normally close terminals but this should only be done for testing purposes, if proven defective you have to replace it with a good one before using the unit in cooking.
Hi limit is the safety device of fryers responsible for shutting the gas valve in case oil temp reaches 450f to avoid oil from catching fire.
Regards.

13 year old pitco frialator fryer pilot wont stay on. changed gas valve and thermopile.... pilot light wont stay lite

Hi there.
Check and tighten all wiring connections.
Check the hi limit for continuity across the terminals using an ohm meter, if it has no continuity, you have to replace the hi limit.

The pilot light goes out when i release the pilot knob. I have a 35 c pitco frialator

Hi there.
Check the thermopile, it must be clean and free of soot or any form of dirt. The gas pressure must be sufficient and all wiring should be tightly connected. Check also the hi limit, it should have continuity across its terminals when tested with an ohm meter.
Regards.

Can i disconect the hi limit switch and still use fryer

Hi there.
Hi limit switch/ device on fryers acts as safety device. It cuts gas supply on burners when it is triggered by high oil temperature in case the temperature regulating device failed to avoid further damage on equipment, property or life.
It is not advisable to operate the equipment with bypassed hi limit device.
I suggest to have it replaced first before putting the fryer back in operation.

Hi- limit constantly trips

Check the oil temperature when it trips. If the oil is 410 degrees or less replace the high limit.

550 degrees and shuting down

Replace the thermostat. If it's really getting to 550F without shutting off the pilot and main burner, or the electric in an electric fryer, by tripping the high limit, replace the high limit as well. The high limit should shut off all the gas or electric at about 425F.

I put it on any temp and it heats to 550 degrees

Replace the thermostat, P5047588. If the fryer is not shutting off, both main burner and pilot, when it overheats, also replace the high limit PP10084. The high limit usually shuts the fryer off at about 425-450F. Check your thermometer. A fryer should never get up to 550F.

The fryer is a pitco 35cs can u tell me y it heats up to 550 and shuts the pilot down

It shuts down because it is tripping the high limit. Apply a soap solution to the lines going from the gas valve to the thermostat. If bubbles appear there is a leak and needs to be corrected. If no bubbles appear then the thermostat is probably your problem.
