While watching TV, a big black spot came to the middle of my picture and won't go away. There is a picture on the outer edges. My son was also playing with the remote at the time and may have done something...Ken
The black spot is about 3 ft in dia right in the middle of the screen. It is darkest in the middle and fades outward until you can eventually see part of the picture. You can also see some of the picture through the black spot. It is not closed captioning. The black spot is about 3 ft in dia right in the middle of the screen. Your son turned on the closed captioning text mode. The black box is where it would appear if there were any text. Go into your setup menu and turn off the captioning, or restore the factory presets.

Hi , it seems you are experimenting a light engine problem. Here's how your tv works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLLHnQ4y-wo Basically there's 3 LCD chips that create the colors and image by blending together. When these chips start to melt you will get those blue spots, pixilation even vertical lines. You will need to replace the light engine. Have a blessed one!
the lcd panel for the blue is bad normally you would have to replace the engine but i know a place where you can get it rebuilted for a price cheaper than the engine go to
N-home tvservice.com for some answers
this issue is tape from the edge of the panel falling onto the screen. You will have to remove the cabinet and the panel from the bezel(front cabinet).remove the screws from the lcd outer edge. Take of the tape.Be very carfull of the ribbon cable that goes to the lcd controller and to the lcd screen itself. They break easy. If you do , its over. you will need a new panel. to much money and work. best to leave it alone.I have fixed it several times for people with warrentys. It is just anoying but will not hurt your tv.
Is it a fuzzy spot or an actual hard edged black spot?LCD televisions can have a loss of pixel display- most very small. Was the TV hit with something or dropped against something (the screen)?

• Closed-captioning might be on. Check the Analog or Digital Caption option in the Setup menu.

Hi,
Just happened to see your black box problem associated with your T.V.; Thought I would pass along an idea for you to check into, and let me know if it helped...Check into whether or not it has a onscreen text block mode, if it gets into this mode by accidentally pressing the wrong buttons on the remote and or TV, it could and I have seen, at least with zeniths, a big black box which will cover the whole screen except for a 2 to 4 inch border around the box and outer edge of the screen...if this is the case, find someone familiar with the correct setting for the set associated with this problem, and get it back into the right mode....Hope this helps..T.
I have a Sharp Tv that had the same problem with a large brownish or black square right in the middle of the screen. It only left about an inch around the edges that you
could see the picture moving in behind the big black block or square.I have DISH sat-elite and the book recomending that I check and see if the "caption settings" were on
or off. They were on. I turned the caption settings off and the large square diappeared.
