The waste ink tank/pads for an Epson Stylus DX8450 printer are located at the bottom of the printer's housing, beneath the print head. Here are the steps to access and replace the waste ink tank/pads:
Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
Open the printer cover to access the ink cartridges.
Gently push the print head to the right to move it to the ink cartridge replacement position.
Look for the waste ink tank/pads at the bottom of the printer housing, just beneath the print head. They may be covered by a small plastic panel.
Remove the plastic panel, if present, by gently pulling it toward you.
Use tweezers or gloves to carefully remove the old waste ink tank/pads from the printer.
Replace the old waste ink tank/pads with a new one, making sure they are seated properly.
Replace the plastic panel, if present.
Push the print head back to its original position.
Close the printer cover.
Plug the printer back into the power source and turn it on.
Reset the waste ink counter by following the instructions in your printer manual or by using a reset utility program.
It's important to note that replacing the waste ink tank/pads can be a messy and complicated process, and it may be best to have it done by a qualified technician or Epson service center to avoid damaging your printer or causing a mess.
Depending on the manufacturer the computer should find and install the necessary driver for your printer when you plug it into the usb port. If not go to the manufacturers website.
If you haven't used your printer in a while, it's possible the print heads have become totally clogged (assuming you haven't already checked out the obvious things like ink levels etc.)
I found that by removing the printhead (remove the ink carts, flip a lever and lift out) you can try spraying some window cleaner onto the nozzles on the underside, leaving a few minutes, and then get a bowl of hot tap water and touch the nozzles on the surface of the hot water.
This will definitely help some 'soft' blocked nozzles. If you get SOME print action after this, then you know the problem is definitely clogged nozzles. However, if they're severely blocked, then you can find a print head cleaner kit online for about $10. It contains some cleaner fluid, a syringe and some pieces of clear hose that fit on the ink funnels on top. Then you can inject cleaning fluid into the nozzles. Did it for mine - worked a treat!
BTW, the inkjet head is fairly watertight in itself - you can flush the nozzles under a hot tap no problem. DO MAKE SURE THE HEAD IS COMPLETELY DRY BEFORE YOU PUT IT BACK IN YOUR PRINTER!
Cindy Wells (Even though my HP printers have Unix drivers available, I haven't tried them. I use Unix in a LiveCD mode and haven't made a custom LiveCD.)
It's not going to work until you replace the empty cartridge.
I haven't heard of any printers, colour printers, that will print
if ANY of its cartridges are empty or missing.
Hi....You haven't written your printer or cartridge model. Then also if it is a laser printer.take out cartridge from the printer.....shake it up & down 3-4 times.again insert it in the printer and now check the print..if it is ok....it means that toner level in your cartridge has reached low level and cartridge needs to be refilled.
this is due to the weak enoder strip.printer reads the encoder to move accordingly.if the strip is turned faulty it will not move properly resuling in istorted print and colliingthe pinter walls.get encoder replaced. it will cost 10 dollars plus technicians service charge.common problem nothing to worry.
