Some pedals have a switch to change the polarity. If not it is possible to make a patch cord that will do the work. This link will start you in the right direction.

SOURCE: Ensoniq KT-88 - sustain pedal works opposite the way it should

Usually that indicates that the polarity of the jack for the sustain pedal has been switched or someone has substituted another pedal with the wrong polarity. Try looking in the manual to see if that is an editable parameter for people who might not be able to obtain an original pedal. You may have to initialize the keyboard which is on page viii of the manual. The jacks on the back for footswitches are on page 1 and 2. The footswitch settings are on page 9. I found the manual here:http://soundprogramming.net/manuals/Ensoniq_KT-76_KT-88_Manual.pdf I don't know if you have the single footswitch or the optional stereo footswitch. If it is the single footswitch, the default setting should work correctly if it is the original SW-2 or SW-6 pedal switches. If it is the optional SW-10, the FTswL setting should be Unused. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: When I plug the sustain pedal in, it remains on

Try testing your switch for function by testing it with a volt ohm meter to make sure the cord and switch are functional. In this case if it is the recommended foot switch it will be momentary on or off. That is if you are using your meter to test across the plug, when you press down you should have no resistance displayed if there was resistance when you connected the probes or resistance displayed if there was none when you originally connected the probes. If the switch is good, your problem is internal to the keyboard and you will have to troubleshoot the circuit on the board. Another possibility is the solder joint has failed where the sustain pedal jack is mounted or the jack itself has failed.

SOURCE: Sustain Pedal Opposite Effect

I found that if I plug in the sustain pedal BEFORE turning the power on, it works fine. If I plug in the sustain pedal AFTER turning the power on, then it works in the opposite way. Probably just the design. So I would try playing with that before doing anything drastic.

SOURCE: I have a Casio CDP

You should have a setting on the keyboard which allows you to switch pedal control. Check the manual.

SOURCE: I replaced sustain pedal jack...now sustain is on ALL the time, even with pedal unplugged

When you replaced it, you either have the wrong jack, wired it wrong or it is shorted out where you connected it. Recheck the connections.

My keyboard sustain now has reversed polarity on random occasions...have tried everything, and it's not my pedal because the same things happen with different pedals.

I would suspect the sustain pedal jack on the keyboard is either dirty or defective. Try using some contact cleaner first, and if that doesn't work replace the jack.

How does a ps25 sustain pedal switch polarity?

It does not "switch polarity," it simply closes a circuit (like a switch).

I am using an mgear sustain pedal for my yamaha keyboard. The pedal usually works, though sometimes I have to flip the switch on the bottom of it, for whatever reason, to get it to actually sustain. But...

Since you didn't specify the model of the Yamaha I will take a good guess. MOST keyboards of all types default via their internal programming to use a pedal that is either a close circuit or open circuit switch. Basically it is two contacts from a wire that is connected (closed) or normally not connected (Open). When you press a pedal, the contacts either open or close. Your pedal has a switch that can choose either one. Now,.. the keyboard has some internal software that controls how the keyboard "sees" the pedal. It sounds to me that you have to get into the "control" section of the interface on the Yamaha and scroll to the "Pedal" polarity section. You might see it as a - (minus) or a + (plus) icon. See if you can make
one of them a default every time you power up. You see, every time you power up the keyboard, it is sensing something different. One last thought... or question...are you keeping the sustain pedal plugged in? or are you connecting and reconnecting it? The keyboard usually "remembers" or senses the polarity from the last power up. I have had similar issues with the Motif keyboards from Yamaha, but have remedied the issue by digging into the internal controls. Lastly, search the manual that came with your Yamaha. See if there is a section under Pedal or pedal polarity.

I plugged a sustain pedal from my Yamaha DX7 on the dumper pedal jack but it works opposite as it should (by pressing the pedal sound cancels as i release the keys; when pedal runs completely free sounds...

every sustain pedal got different polarity.. normally just go to global setting on your keyboard and change damper polarity setting to plus or minus (select which one work with your sustain padle).

I have a mo8 and the sustain pedal is reversed. What can I do to make sustain when pedal is depressed?

This is a common problem when one uses a Roland sustain pedal with other brands such as Yamaha. Frankly, I would just get a Yamaha pedal to use with the unit. Some Yamaha synths have a setting for pedal "polarity" but I could not find it in the mass information of the MO8 manual. The Yamaha Tyros synths have a setting that is easily found in the utility settings... I don't see that in this manual. SOMETIMES you can open a pedal and find that you can with a soldering iron transfer a wire to reverse the pedal... but not all pedals have both contacts available.

How can I get my Roland Dp-10 damper pedal to work with my novation remote sl and axiompro 61 again? I use a mac and logic studio and it has been working fine up until recently.

Look for a setting "pedal polarity" someplace either in the software or in the units.

Read section 2.4.2 of the Axiom manual. Also Appendix E where sustain is documented. The sustain is controller 64. I would use method 1 of the 2.4.2 writeup. You actuate the control (pedal) which arms the unit to accept setup sequence for that particular input.

You want to turn on MIDI output for the sustain pedal. Now remember that a Roland pedal has revese polarity of MOST others and that may needs to be setup. It is NOT clear from the documentation if the Axiom recognizes the reverse sense of the pedal, but it should. It SHOULD sense the pedal is normally closed and when you actuate it sense the change so you can configure it.

Some of the software MAY try to configure the Axiom and ASSUME the pedal is the more common polarity and undo the programming you have done.

Hello- my P95 sustain pedal does not work when plugged in but the sustain works when you disconnect the cord from the back of the keyborad

This is confusing... you say "the sustain works when you disconnect the cord"? How can that happen? and doesn't work when it is plugged in.

MOST sustain pedal problems are due to people using a different pedal than the keyboard is designed to use. It is very common that someone tries to use a Roland sustain pedal on a Yamaha and oof course it doesn't work because the Roland pedal is normally closed and Yamaha usually requires a normally open contact.

A FEW keyboards now check the state of the pedal input when power is first turned on and configure the pedal polarity accordingly. For these keyboards, make sure the pedal is plugged in before power is turned on.

A bought an Yamaha DGX 640 grand a week before and the note sustain for a longer duration and overlaps with the current playing notes. I checked the sustain in the function setting and it is also showing ...

The function setting is for the PANEL sustain (Page 68 of your manual)

The other method of sustain is by footswitch or pedal option. See page 13.

If you use a footswitch, it needs to be a normally open contact type. If you plug a Roland type in, it is opposite polarity and will sustain UNLESS the pedal is pressed. Make sure nothing else is plugged in the sustain jack... headphones that are inadvertently plugged in there would sustain.
