SOURCE: GOODMAN MODEL CKJ30-1A

I think you mean compressor rather than condenser. Take the panel that covers the controls off the unit. If the clicking noise is the contacter, and it is engaging when the power is turned on, then follow the wires to the compressor, remove the little plastic cover and look for wires that are burnt or otherwise not making contact with the compressor terminals. If the wires are good and you have a volt meter, set it to ohms, TURN OFF THE POWER, remove the wires on the compressor. (remember where C,S,R, goes) touch the meter to any 2 terminals on the compressor. They all 3 should have continuity to each other. No continuity=new compressor. If the contacter is not making the clicking noise when the power is turned on, then you have another problem that I'll need more info. to help.

SOURCE: Compressor does not turn on

Go outside and check power at the disconnect switch.

Sounds like compressor is bad...taken out by a bad contactor.

SOURCE: How do I turn on

If it is the breaker box in your house, then just push it to the side so it is lined up with the other breakers in the box. Actually any breaker will be like that. If it is the disconnect outside then it pulls out and you flip it over and put it back in.

SOURCE: My goodman central air unit

1 posible cause.the thermostat supplies 24 volts to the outside unit to control the contactor if you hear a ligth huming on the outside unit this is the being activated. if this is the case then
check to see if any ants are in or around the unit see video, they will usually climb to dry areas before during or after a storm and for some reason they like the contactor if this is the case cut all power to the unit and clean contactor spray the area around the unit with an insecticide ( not the contactor) replace cover and test unit. Best of Luck. raypena_4.jpg

My goodman ac unit. M#g8x130301bd comes on with the thermostat turned off when i turn thermostat to cool the fan on the air handler wont come on

Incorrect low voltage wiring, or if the wiring is old, most likely a break in the insulation of the wiring creating a short.
First thing, check the wiring diagram to see that all wire colors are attached where they should be at the thermostat.
Then look at the wiring diagram at the air handler and verify the control wires are on the proper terminals.

10 year old Goodman central AC won't come on after mini power outage. Breakers and wall thermostat OK.

Check the start capacitor for proper value and replace if necessary.
Ditto for thermostat. There are also some fuses in the air handler that might need replacement.

You may have had a power surge that had a bad effect on electronics of unit. Make sure that unit is receiving power for one thing. U might try to reset the electronics by completely shutting off all the breakers to compressor and air handler and waiting a few minutes and then reconnecting.

sounds like there is a Freon leak and has been since it was installed and is going off on because of low charge, you will need to call a competent A/C repairer, more then likely the leak will be in the air handler, should cost under a $100 to fix. Good Luck Tim

Were is the reset button on the unit?

Hi, here is the theory on the reset button on Air Conditioners. They reset via the breaker panel box in your house. Check that first before anything else. However if your unit is popping breakers, it is because the rating for the breaker is incorrect, or there is something that needs servicing usually in the outside unit called the condenser. That piece contains the compressor. A faulty compressor and pop the breaker. Or If the condenser fan that blows over the coils of the outside unit stops (common failure) The compressor will overheat and shut down. That may not trip the breaker but the house will get hot anyway. Usual action for this is to replace the condenser fan motor and starting capacitor. Make sure the speed rating and directional rotation for the replacement motor is the same as the motor removed.
There are other reasons why the system won't come one fully. If the wall thermostat is digital and does nothing. including turning on the fan. There will be a small fuse located on the circuit board of the air handler (part of Air Conditioner mounted inside the house. It houses the circulation fan). That fuse could be blown. That one shuts down just about everything.
On air handlers mounted up into the attic crawl space there is an overflow pan. This pan is mounted directly below the air handler. This pan can fill with water when the drain pain contained inside the air handler starts to overflow because the drain system to that is clogged.
There is a "float switch" mounted in the overflow pan wired to the system in such as way as to shut down the entire AC system if that pan fills.
The handling is to clear the obstruction in the Drip Pan inside the air handler. Then remove enough water from the overflow pan and the AC will run as though nothing has happened.
If you have more questions, write to me on this site.
One thing more. The capacitor alone in the Outside condenser unit can fail and that will stop the condenser completely if it is of a "split" design and used for both the compressor and fan. When replacing this unit alone, ALWAYS find the same specification part.
I hope this helps,
Have a Happy New Year,
Mark

WHEN THE HEATER COMES ON THE FAN STARTS INSTANTLY AND BLOWS COLD

Do you have a heat pump? If so this is normal. You are probably used to a gas furnace. There are heat pumps that do have a delay though. Look on the circuit board in the air handler. There may be a set of pins that say 0-30-60-90 yours may be at 0. Also some digital T-stats offer that function for delay off to get the extra heat or cold from the system. Find out what the model number of the air handler and call the Goodman supplier in your area to see if you have these options.
If you have a gas furnace and it's not delaying the blower there is definately something wrong.
