Why does bobbin thread keep snagging?

It initially sews correctly, and then the bobbin thread will snag, bunch up, and eventually break

There could be burr or nick somewhere that the bobbin thread is catching. Use a fine piece of fabric, like an old pair of hosiery, wrap it around your finger and run your finger around in the bobbin area and the needle plate. If there is a burr or nick, the fabric will catch. If it is small, it can frequently be buffed with very fine steel wool or fine emery board. Otherwise, that part can probably be replaced.

If you can, open the bobbin door and hand rotate the handwheel while watching the needle/hook action. You may see what is happening, ie the bobbin thread could be wrapping around something and hanging up.

Increase the needle thread tension up a bit as it is too loose to pull the bobbin thread up properly
keep adjusting until both threads are at the middle of the materials being sewn

Tension on upper thread not right, thread keeps snapping

Most likely, your tension is too tight. First thing, unthread the machine. RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning. The standard initial tension setting is the midway point between high & low number, HOWEVER, that will probably need to be tweaked as machines vary.

The tension is correct when upper and bobbin threads meet in the middle of the fabric. If the thread continues to break, then there may be a snag somewhere that is catching the thread and breaking it. Also, check that the thread notch on the spool is not catching the thread. Be sure your needle is compatible with the thread, ie the thread is too thick for the needle eye.

Bobbin thread breaks off once i start sewing

Hmm, sounds like maybe there is a rough spot on the bobbin case or hook that is snagging the thread. Could also be the bobbin tension is too tight or it is broken. Also, check to make sure the bobbin is loaded the correct direction in the bobbin case and threaded through the bobbin tension properly.

How do I set a straight stitch? What is causing the top thread to break?

You do not say which machine you have. As for a straight stitch, make sure the needle is central and not in zig zag mode.
The thread can break for several reasons, such as. Incorrect tension.
:Wrong thread for the material.
: Thread in bobbin different from the top thread.
:Old thread.
: Not threaded correctly.
: Needle not inserted correctly, or incorrect needle.or the thread could be wound around the spool holder pin,
Try removing the spool and turn it around.
Hope this helps.

How do i fix the problem of my top thread tangling up and moving the bobbin case?

Remove your bobbin case and inspect it for any damage. Scratches, holes, snags. Sometimes you can Dremmel the snags.

Kenmore sewing machine 16520

Bobbin case problems are common, and usually bobbin race parts are easy to find and not too expensive if you need to completely replace them. Otherwise I have successfully sanded down burrs on cases and races if that is what the thread is snagging on... ? Without having someone look at how it is snagging, it is hard to diagnose. Hope you figure it out!

My top thread on my white sewing machine keeps breaking, the stitching is then getting snagged and bunched up underneath. In addition, I have noticed that the top thread is swinging loosely forward just...

try putting in a new needle---flat side to the back of machine
try rethreading the machine
make sure the top thread is on the thread take up lever
clean under the needle plate & in the bobbin area for loose threads & lint

My needle thread keeps breaking. I've tried different thread (top and bobbin), a new needle, and I opened up the bottom plate to clean out lint. I have also tried adjusting the thread tension.

Are you sure you have got the top thread threaded correctly including the take up lever? Start at the thread spool and follow the thread all the way through the thread path checking that it is not snagging on anything enroute and that the thread is correctly through the tension device. Also tension dial should be on 4-5, if its higher this could be breaking the thread. YOu should not need to adjust top thread tension more than a half increment at any time.

Other possibility is that the bobbin holder under the needle plate has moved out of alignment and then the top thread is catching there as it goes around the hook.

If you check your manual it should give you instructions on removing the needle plate (2 screws need to come out), then you can lift the bobbin case out towards you, clean underneath with your little brush, then reinsert it. There are two little red marks on the right side of the bobbin case and a stopper, these need to be lined up. Then put in bobbin and rethread into tension spring, replace needle plate, bobbin cover, and test stitch.

Hopefully one of the above is causing the thread to break.

Bobbin thread breaks also breaksneedle

Hi there, Sounds like the tensioner needs to be adjusted. Or the bobbin isn't loaded correctly causing the thread to snag and pulling the needle and breaking it.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Bobbin/threading

Could be acouple of things. The tension on the thread or the bobbin. The needle not in all the way. Wrong type of needle for the thickness of the material. My problem was always trying to pull or push the fabric with the needle in the material - cause a bend, then the tip snags the side of the bobbin hole. Snap it's gone.

As your friend suggested, check the threading of the bobbin, the click she/he might be talking about it the first rotation of the bobbin, then being snagged by the needle thread. Good luck!
