Where can I find helpful instructions for replacing (removing old and installing new) thermocouple on Pentair 250k minimax ch NG mv? Thank you.

Simple:
  • Insecure bracket holding the pilot assembly to the burner tray
  • now, remove the pilot assembly from bracketry
  • unscrew old pilot generator/thermo pile or thermocouple
  • new may have a clip instead of threaded nut
    • diameter of hole is same so it should just snap into place
  • in reverse order resecure the pilot bracket to burner tray

Is ther a special thermocouple for the friolator

There are different thermocouples for different type of gas valve. You can order the thermocouple for your pitco fryer at www.middleby.com and look for the local service/ sales office in your at pitco website there.

Can't light a vulcan heritage gas heater, the pilot light lights, but as soon as I try to lift my finger off the button to ignite the heater, the pilot flame always goes off.

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.

What you are experiencing is the lack of a signal from the thermocouple to the gas valve. I.e. the thermocouple is not passing heat information at all. This is caused by either a defective thermocouple, a dirty mating area where the thermocouple connects to the gas valve or... an improperly positioned thermocouple that is not "in the flame" with the pilot lit.

  • First make sure the FIRE end of the thermocouple is in the flame when lit. (reposition if necessay)
  • Next disconnect the thermocouple by unscrewing the fitting on the top of the gas valve. (No gas will come out) Clean the metal mating area as best you can and then re-install the thermocouple. Just a good snug fit. Once you feel it come snug add 15 degrees of tightening motion with a wrench.
Attempt to light the pilot... wait 45 seconds to 1 minute while holding the pilot button down before letting it up. If it stays lit.... GOOD JOB. If it goes out the next step is to replace the thermocouple. If after replacing the thermocouple it does not stay lit the remedy is to replace the gas valve. There are no short cuts and the sequence of repairs is just as I stated in order.

You can remove your old thermocouple and walk in to almost any appliance parts supply or Plumbing and heating supply to purchase the correct thermocouple without a part number. They will match it up with yours.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

My heater will light and burn steadily for about 2 minutes and then it just turns off, even the pilot light. What is causing this?

Sounds like the Thermocouple is going bad. Or, since it's Propane, he Thermocouple has a lacquered finish on it from the propane. If so, locate the Thermocouple (see your Owners Manual) and using a strip of fine sand paper, polish the Thermocouple thoroughly. You don't want to actually sand it, as much as polish it. Then wipe off the Thermocouple with a cotton ball soaked in alcohol. Allow the alcohol to evaporate before attempting to light the pilot.

Also your should trace the Thermocouple wire back to where it enters the control valve. Try loosening the nut with your fingers. If it does loosen, finger tighten it and with the appropriately sized open wrench, tighten it only a 1/4 turn more.

If either of the trouble shooting suggestions don't solve your problem, the Thermocouple will have to be replace. You can buy one directly from Coleman online. Make sure you have your Model # & Serial # before ordering.

Hope this helps. Please let me know.

Pilot assembly parts or thermocouples

Hardware store thermocouples don't work on patio heaters. The fittings are not the same thread and they are not set up for the anti tilt safety switch. You'll need to purchase the parts from Blue Rhino.

Glo-Warm Wall Gas Wall-heater parts...

We had a problem keeping the pilot light to stay on, and this site recommended that it could possibly be the thermocoupler that was causing our problems also. We ordered the thermocouple, put it on,hooked it back up and it worked great! Thank you so much.
