Testimonial: "Finding this machine on your blog still makes no reference to a solution"
SOURCE: Err LS on Bowflex Treadmill
The machine needs to be re-callibrated. L5 error.
Your speed sensor must have been damaged either during shipping or use. You'll need a new one. If under warranty - give Bowflex a call. They will ship you out a new sensor and guide you through installing it via the phone... re-calibrating the machine... and getting it operational again. It will take about 2 hours.
The instruction book doesn't mention calibration. be sure to not callibrate in metrics, however (there's no way to easily tell the difference - you have to ask) or you'll be strolling like a walk in the park at 5 "mph".
Thanks for using FixY - a FixYa rating is appreciated!!

Unplug your machine, restart it and try to calibrate it one more time. I had to do this with mine and it did take more than one try to get it to recalibrate again.

Did you find a solution for this issue? I have a similar situation
SOURCE: bowflex treadmill series 7 saying safe out
I had the same problem, however the treadmill remained in 'safe out' status even when the Safety pull pin was correctly inserted.
The cause of my fault was that one of the kids decided to insert a wrist watch into the round hole located on the control panel's lower cover. In doing so this unplugged the cable conector for the magnetic switch which operates the 'safe out' function, from the main circuit board. The repair was quick and easy, i turned the power off, removed the bottom cover from the control panel and simply plugged the magnetic switch back into the main circuit board and all was back to normal.
