Does your washer fill , but not agitate or spin? If this is the case, the fine graphite looking dust you are seeing is actually part of the rubber bushing to your motor coupling. The motor coupler is located between the transmission and drive motor under the wash tub. It is quite common for the coupler to go bad, especially if the machine gets used a lot. The part costs about $10 to purchase and is fairly simple to replace. Let me know if your symptoms match what I'm describing here.

SOURCE: Broken Washer

it could be the direct drive coupling that connects the motor to the transmission. fill it up with water and see if it will agitate, if it will NOT agitate then it is a good chance that this is the problem. 0404472.jpg

worse case scenario is the transmission is bad, but this is unlikely.

SOURCE: drum doesn't move or spin

kenmore tumble action washer model#417.44152400,
Washer is approximately 3 years old. Will not drain or spin. When it tries to spin, clicking noise heard inside of unit. Would a clog insie the lines disable the spin cycle ?

SOURCE: Loud grinding motor protesting humming w/no spinning or agitating

The drum/agitator bearings are bad I believe, or the gearbox has been damaged. This is an expensive repair. I would strongly consider buying a new washer. This is a great time to buy appliances since the stores are really competing, and the prices are at their lowest.

SOURCE: Weird rubbing or mild grinding noise when in spin cycle.

It sounds like the bearings on your tub are going. This is an expensive and difficult job to do. (approx $450 parts and labour and you may do more damage trying to take it apart)

Cycle stops at 12 minutes remaining in all cycles. Sounds like a grinding noise in unit. Then machine stops with Water remaining in drum. No blocks in pump. I run spin only to empty water. E11 code

Thanks for your post, Daniel!

Based off the information you have provided the cycles inside of your Frigidaire washer will stop at 12 minutes and making a grinding noise. I also see that you receive an E11 error code and that stands for a long fill time. I would recommend checking over the hoses to assure they are installed properly and not restricted. You may have an issue with your drain pump, motor, or water valve. I would recommend performing a reset on your washer and you can do that by disconnecting power from it for at least ten minutes. I hope this information is helpful to you. -Matt

Wont drain with a load, but will drain when empty. Have cleaned filter, have run drain cycle with filter open motors works. have filled using start of 32 min cycle, and emptied using drain, at l

sounds like inside the drum a dog waste bag or a small plastic bag for something plastic has melted onto the heating element
this can be removed for checking not easy bit fiddly but at least you can rule it out
ah you think i didnt have plastic in my wash

got kids?? then the soap drawer is the place all dirty things go to get washed
sounds like some plastic flapping about above the drum drain port

Got an OE error, now it will not finish rinse and spin, sounds like it is grinding in the spin cycle and the timer is stopped at 27 minutes remaining. What is wrong?

The problem is in the drain system as what error code OE stands for.The grinding noise is coming from the drain pump. Loose change, hair pins and the likes can get into the pump filter and sometimes into the pump impeller causing a grinding noise during the spin cycle because the pump works while the machine is spinning. The pump impeller may also be broken causing the grinding noise.

Disconnect power then open the filter door on the bottom left of the cabinet.

Remove the drain plug and drain the water out completely into a shallow basin or the likes. Once drained, lay a piece of towel under the filter then turn the filter knob counterclockwise and remove it. Clean the filter and reach in the pump impeller to check it if blocked or broken. If cleaning the filter does not solve the problem, you need to access the drain pump assembly and check the pump particularly the impeller thoroughly. My Whirlpool Duet Sport Front-Loading washer stopped working. This morning it gave an F-25 error. We've unplugged it, plugged it back in, and I tried draining it but the drum seems like it's caught on...

http://www.assuredparts.com/WhirlpoolDuetWasherFaultCodes.htm

These are the fault codes for whirpool. The noise problem is what is bothering me.You can pull the bottom front panel, three screws and see if you have a problem with the wiring harness to the motor, also remove the clean out filter on the water pump and clean that out,(large 3 to 4inch diameter white plastic screw almost dead center and to the left of the pump motor). I would also pull remove the backing plate and check where the drum pulley attaches to the shaft, see if it is broken or makes noise as you turn it. You may see water or brown streaks coming from the bottom of the main bearing shaft assembly, This is a major repair. l would recommend you have a technician check this out, you may have a bad main bearing assembly, bad motor, or bad pump (unlikely) but you need a technician for most of these. I have also seen a sock between the inner and outer drum, causing the drum not to spin up to speed. Good Luck, Appliance Specialists

I have a lgwm 2677hbm washer and got a code read out de .i looked it up and it said drain error,i cleaned the drain filter but it sounds very loud during the rinceand spin cycle and i dont know if this...

It is not likely an object got past the filter before the pump, so I'd guess that the impeller has come loose from the pump motor shaft. Replace the pump motor. (washer will not spin if water is still in drum)

I have an LG Tromm wm1812cw washing machine and besides all the mold and mildew problems it has, it is now making weird sounds when it spins or rotates the load. It is intermittent and doesn't always code...

With a 10 year warranty on their direct drive washer motor, eliminating a clutch or transmission, those enerty star LG's generally preform very well. (one of my customers runs 10 loads a day, 365 days a year in his)
Sounds like the shaft may have seperated from the three spider arms which actually turn the drum. To remove, you may have to grind end of bolt off motor shaft to facilitate dissassembly. It's a rather involved process. Prevent future mold and mildew issues by cleaning out the drain filter and then using a front load washer cleaner on longest, hottest cycle with no clothes (like ahfresh or washer magic, or whirlaway hot tub cleaner, to name a few.) then use not more that one tablespoon of HE detergent and a max of a teaspoon of fabric softener (if you use it) per load, as these machines are using very little water. (when you split the tub to replace the drive spider, use a pressure washer to clean out the inside of the outer drum and the back side of the inner tub) BTW, I have not found any reason to not stick with my LG washer and dryer. My seven year old set worked many a load, and still works great.

Hotpoint bwm129 making huming noise

Sounds like the rinse water can't come. Maybe the solenoid for cold water got stuck or a water filter needs cleaning? If the humming is louder, perhaps the drum motor (or drum) needs a little care or cleaning.

If all else fails, download the user manual and check the trouble checklist index. (Or; try learning your kenpo succession move sparring against laundry to clean it.)
