Select menu
Select spanner(wrench) for setup menu.
Scroll down through the menu, there are five pages of menu items on my camera! it moves to a new page when you move off the bottom.
The language option is the penultimate item - it has an icon of a head with a speech bubble.

You can download the manual (in english) from here .....
http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_GB/Products/LUMIX+Digital+Cameras/Stylish+Compact/DMC-FS7/Manuals/1994677/index.html;jsessionid=0a6d28f030d771f7f5cda5bb4afaa2aa879f33d20d0a.e34MaN0RbxyTbO0LbxiRax4Kb30Pe6fznA5Pp7ftolbGmkTy?trackInfo=true
The important thing to note is that irrespective which language its in, the menu choices are the same in all languages. i.e. if menu choice one is <data> in english, its the same in Japanese - even if it looks like a stream of rather pretty characters.
Menu language is dealt with on page 29 of the manual. It looks like a simple change if you recognise the icons they have used.

Go into the menu...go to the set-up menu (the one with the wrench)...start scrolling down the list until you get to an icon of a face talking (on my camera it's the next to last entry) then click the right arrow in the 4-way selector until you find the word "english" and click on it. Press menu/ok and you should be in english.

You can use http://translate.google.com/# to help you get the right settings.
as you can translate the common used English words to Japanese and to find it in your camera
Settings:
language:
menu:
english
it's a pity that I can't copy the translate results here as this site don't support japanese words
