Does this happen to everybody that you send the emoticons to?
Try using another keyboard, one that does come with emoticon also. Try using another message app, like Hangout, Viber or Telegram. I'm asking this because maybe the fault is not on your side.

Refer to the Instruction manual. It should tell you how to change the pattern and how to unlock it if you forgot. You may have a service telephone number to call.

Easiest way is via your carrier's backup application if they have one. Otherwise you will need to go phone to phone and I can't help you there - try the manufacturers documentation to point you in the right direction for that.
