If the TV and sound bar have an optical connector, then get the optical cable to connect the two. If not then use the audio out jacks on the TV and don't forget to change the audio set up to switch the sound to the sound bar.
For surround sound, you need an A/V receiver with 5.1 or 7.1 surround capability. Depending on what kind of receiver you have, the DVD player, satellite/cable box, etc hooks to the receiver, those signals go out to the TV, and the speakers hook to the receiver. The receiver decodes the signal from the cable/satellite box or DVD player and routes it to the appropriate speakers. If the TV program or DVD isn't HD or coded for surround sound, the best you can expect is 2.1 channel stereo sound. OR, you can hook everything (DVD, satellite/cable box) to the TV and run an optical cable from the Digital Output of the TV to the receiver, which is basically the same thing, just a different way to hook everything up. Hope this helps
To watch a DVD your player needs to be connected to the TV using a scart or RCA connectors (red, yellow and white) depending on the type of connections available to you. The easiest way to connect the DVD player to a television is via
Audio/Video connections that are usually supplied with it. Next plug in your DVD player and power it up.
Next use your remote to select AV 1, 2 or 3 or HDMI - depending on the input you used at the back of your TV. Insert DVD and play! For example, if the DVD player is connected to the SCART socket labeled Av1, then you need to select Av1 with the remote.
The use of your DVD player is not dependant on the dish receiver - it works on a serarate input direct to the TV. Connecting your DVD player in this manner direct to your TV will not affect your cable or antenna
connection to your television.
