A natural red food coloring is obtained from cochineal insects; it is used in many commonly available products. There are synthetic (chemicals that are potentially toxic) alternatives for red color, but if your package contains carmine, carminic acid or cochineal extract as one of the ingredients, it contains extracts o the red bug.

I heard that chocolate and beetroot make a good cake combination. Is that true? It sounds really strange.

Martha Stewart has a lovely chocolate and beet cake recipe. Don't worry, you don't taste the beetroot, it just gives a really moist texture to the cake.

Try it and you'll probably be pleasantly surprised.

My pan is 19 9/16x11 5/8x3 3/16. I am going to bake a red velvet cake, How many boxes do i need for this size pan?

Velvet: the sumptuous fabric of kings and queens. It evokes images of posh surroundings and aristocratic environments, and has been valued for thousands of years. According to Karen Brandon, a textile fabric consultant, "Velvet has in fact been around as early on as 2000BC. The Egyptians were documented using a technique similar to the one that is utilized today in velvet production." Happily, lining a jewelry box with this plush material is a practical project, so you can easily indulge yourself and protect your valuables with the luxury of velvet.
1.Measure the bottom width and length of the jewelry box to be lined, as well as the width and length of each inner side. Don't assume every side measures the same. Allow for variances occurring in manufacturing. Write down all of the measurements.
2.Use scissors to cut sections matching the box's dimensions from self-adhesive sheets of velvet.
3.Line the bottom of the box first. Peel the backing from the self-adhesive velvet and position the piece.
4.Press the velvet firmly onto the box, making sure to push the edges into any crevices or corners. If there are any overlaps or jagged areas, trim them with a craft knife.
5.Position the rest of the velvet jewelry gift boxes one by one in the same way, fully completing each section before moving on to the next..8_14_2012_9_33_18_am.jpg
