How do you soften an unopened tube of silicone

That can be difficult at best but here goes:
I found this on the Net, No solvent dissolves silicone caulk, so you won't find a chemical agent in the hardware store that will allow you to wipe away the caulk after brushing it on. Mineral spirits will soften it, but you'll probably have to accomplish the bulk of the removal by cutting the caulk with a sharp knife and pulling it off with pliers. The process will leave small patches of material clinging to the substrate. These patches can be thin enough to be almost invisible, and it may be difficult to scrape them off without damaging the surfaces to which they adhere.

Unfortunately this is usually caused by a leak and the drywall is wet , and or the tub is sinking due to water damage to floor. If the drywall is solid then use a utility knife to remove old caulk, then after area is clean apply silicone caulk around the tub. apply neatly but with plenty enough to fill the void. I then spray a dish soap an water mixture on the calk then remove excess by pressing thumb down and sliding it long caulking. This presses it into the gap and also removes excess, which leaves you a neatly caulked tub.

you can use silicone caulk for kitchens and bathrooms. this is the kind for caulking around bathtub enclosure and it comes in clar or white. can be bought at walmart , lowes or any good hardware or building supply company

The gasket is installed on the outside of the tub. Use plumbers putty under the male end on the inside of the tub as it stays permanantly flexible and will not mildew like silicone caulking can. Do not silicone or use plumbers putty on the gasket. The gasket will seal nicely under pressure from the connections.

If you have the option of not using the shower for a while, I would put a dehumidifier in the shower to **** the mositure out from below. If cost is no object, you can go ahead and pull the base. The key to the caulk is to completely remove the old caulk, clean carefully and use a silicon based caulk. Be sure to let it dry properly (see caulk cure times on tube).

I've never had a sun roof in an automobile before. I figured I could do with out one. So I just used a tube of silicon caulk and sealed it shut!

most hardware/home stores have a chemical remover that softens the caulk so u can use a putty knife or scraper on it

you can you a tube of G.E. 100% silicone sealent, available at the hardware stores. just make sure its 100% silicone ,not caulking. after repairing donot use t he machine for at least 24 hrs
