There is no effective long term way to store tubes of silicon. Even unopened tubes have a finite shelf life. I have found the most effective way to store opened tubes for medium lenght time, is to allow a bit of excess to flow over the tip, and allow it to form a plug. In a few months, this plug may extend the full length of the nozzle, but you can push this out with a piece of steel rod (from the tip end). I keep my tubes of silicone and caulking in a cool dry place. I've never tried the bucket of water method, so I don't know how successful that would be.

You may not be able to use it anymore. You'll have to buy a new one. Personally I didn't face with such problems, but maybe someone here will help you. I can only recommend to check out the post right here, you will find a lot of caulking tips and tricks! Good luck!

I typically try not to keep things like caulking in the freezer/frig. Having said that...i have put paint brushes that have latex paint on them in the freezer for a day or two in between doing coats of paint. Just wrap them in plastic wrap like Saran wrap then put them in the freezer. That'a only temporary whenpainting a room. That's much easier than cleaning them after each use over a couple days of painting.
For caulking, i usually find a long screw that fits snugly and deeply in the spout, like a 2" or 3" screw. I let it dry in there and then when I need to use the caulking again, I pull the screw out which pulls out the plug.
If the caulking is 2 years old, it's probably going to be dried up.

How can I get a toilet tank lid unsiliconed that was a floor model

That can be difficult at best but here goes:
I found this on the Net, No solvent dissolves silicone caulk, so you won't find a chemical agent in the hardware store that will allow you to wipe away the caulk after brushing it on. Mineral spirits will soften it, but you'll probably have to accomplish the bulk of the removal by cutting the caulk with a sharp knife and pulling it off with pliers. The process will leave small patches of material clinging to the substrate. These patches can be thin enough to be almost invisible, and it may be difficult to scrape them off without damaging the surfaces to which they adhere.
No Matches Found. Please try your search again. Residue Removal Removing silicone caulk residue effectively is a two- or three-part process. Softening the residue by prolonged exposure to mineral spirits loosens its bond with the substrate. Leaving one or several rags soaked with the solvent in contact with the caulk for several hours is the best way to accomplish this. When the residue has softened, much of it will come off under the vigorous action of a scrub brush, but you may need a razor knife or pull scraper for stubborn patches. Avoid sandpaper. No matter how coarse the grit, silicone caulk simply gums it up and renders it ineffective.
Considerations Avoid using mineral spirits on painted, lacquered or otherwise finished surfaces. Denatured alcohol may be an appropriate substitute, but it's best to test any solvent you use on an inconspicuous part of the substrate and avoid it if you notice discoloration or other undesirable effects. In lieu of soaking a rag with solvents, you may be able to remove the residue by soaking an abrasive sponge instead. Softening the residue and scrubbing it at the same time is most likely to be effective on smooth substrates such as glass, tile or Formica.
Good Luck,

My tub is plastered into the wall with caulking. Recently, I have noticed that the caulking is dissapating and loosening up the tub. Fortunately, I have not see a change in my water flow. I want to

Unfortunately this is usually caused by a leak and the drywall is wet , and or the tub is sinking due to water damage to floor. If the drywall is solid then use a utility knife to remove old caulk, then after area is clean apply silicone caulk around the tub. apply neatly but with plenty enough to fill the void. I then spray a dish soap an water mixture on the calk then remove excess by pressing thumb down and sliding it long caulking. This presses it into the gap and also removes excess, which leaves you a neatly caulked tub.

We are ready to install the Duracraft Plastics Schedule 40 Foot Lok style bath drain and have a question on the foot lok drain gasket. Does the gasket install on the inside or outside of the bathtub and...

The gasket is installed on the outside of the tub. Use plumbers putty under the male end on the inside of the tub as it stays permanantly flexible and will not mildew like silicone caulking can. Do not silicone or use plumbers putty on the gasket. The gasket will seal nicely under pressure from the connections.

Caulk coming off in Corian stall shower

If you have the option of not using the shower for a while, I would put a dehumidifier in the shower to **** the mositure out from below. If cost is no object, you can go ahead and pull the base. The key to the caulk is to completely remove the old caulk, clean carefully and use a silicon based caulk. Be sure to let it dry properly (see caulk cure times on tube).
