My tv had a few small vertical lines for year, then went black completely. Sound still works, but no picture. What part/board am I looking to replace?

It is a common problem for the LG model. The problem
is defective LED back lights ASSY. You have to open the display panel & replace the burned LED strips.

You most likely had a capacitor let go, they make a pop when the go out, inspect the PCB for a burned mark.

You must resolder the vertical IC on this unit. You will find the pins are separated from the TV board. Look very close, and you will find rings around the Vertical IC pins. A very common problem with this model! Thanks for asking and show a few hands of support.

This is more than likely your screen controller board that has gone faulty, if the lines cover the screen vertically and are very thin and rainbow kind of coulored then i would say 98% this is the faulty board, Remove the back from your tv and look for a little board (rectangular in shape) that connects to your screen. (Middle top)
Get the part number of the board and Google or Ebay for a replacement.

If it's a horizontal line across the face of the picture tube, your TV has a problem with its vertical output. Most likely, it's bad solder connections to the vertical output IC. Because this part gets very hot during normal operation, the connections to the circuit board can crack and the part quits working. All you see then is that narrow line across the tube. A few minutes with a soldering iron to repair the connections is usually all that's needed to fix the TV. It's also possible the part has truly failed, but the bad connections a much more common. A service shop could do the repair if you don't know anyone with the soldering skills.

this is a common problem,the vertical hold has been damaged.dont leave the teli. on,the white line will burn the middle of the screen and leave a black mark. You need a new integrated circuit(i.c.) for vertical hold.

This is a vertical circuit problem that is either bad connections on the vertical IC or a defective IC. If you can solder, you can fix this yourself. Look for a small flat IC attached to a heatsink with about 9-11 pins. It may be marked LA7837 or something similar. Try resoldering the pins first. If that fails to resolve the problem, replace the IC. There may be defective caps in the circuit as well, but those don't usually cause complete vertical failure. If the picture does not return fully, update this and we'll continue on to the next step.

Mine looks like too, but the line running across isn't on my set, picture looks like this, and the sound works fine. I took the tuner board all the way out and turned the set on and it did the same thing, then I unplugged the top wire on the board next to the tuner board and the screen went black. plugged it back in and the screen came back with the scrambled picture. Anyone know why? Bad mainboard maybe? the left of the tuner board?
