How do I fax

if you go to the following website:
http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mx_series/pixma_mx310#BrochuresAndManuals
you will see a heading for "Brochures and Manuals". Directly below that heading will be a link for the MX310 series On-Screen Manual (Windows 7/7 x64/Vista/Vista64/XP/XP x64/2000). Download and install this manual. The actual link is called "mx310sosmwin110us.exe" Click on the link and save it to your Desktop. Once the download is complete double-click the link on your Desktop. The file will automatically unpack and install itself.
Once the install is complete you can delete the link. The program will leave an icon on your desktop called "
MX310 series On-screen manual". Double-clicking this icon will open the manual, and you will then have a number of choices open depending on what you want to do. If you have a printed document that you want to send then you will want to choose the "User Guide", and then on the left hand side of the screen choose "Faxing". If you have a document that you have created using a program on your computer you would want to choose the "Fax Driver Guide" choice.

If you chose the User Guide choice, the manual will show you how to attch your phone line to your machine, and then run you through the basic setup of the FAX menu. You would then place your document face-up into the document feeder on the top of your printer, press the FAX button on the left of your control panel, dial the fax number on the printers keypad, and then press either the BLACK or COLOR button on the right of your control panel, depending on whether you are sending a color or black and white fax.

If you choose the Fax Driver Guide, the manual will step you through how to choose the FAX machine as your printer, and then how to enter the phone number of the destination fax machine, and then send the document.
