Needle keeps hitting something around about the bobbin case causing the needle to bend or break. What could be causing that?

If the needle hits the bobbin case, it may break the tip of the needle. This usually happens if the bobbin case is not placed correctly. After cleaning your sewing machine, you may fail to put back the bobbin case into its original alignment.

Sounds like there is a hook of metal either on the needle or the bobbin case (sometimes happens when trying to sew something very very thick and the needle bends slightly and hits the bobbin case.). Suggest changing needle 1st, if this is not the problem, take out bobbin case and look and feel with fingers, if there is a mark where the needle has hit just use your own steel nail file and file the area very gently to remove the bur. breaking needles from hitting can be from several problems
1-- needle /hook timing is out
2--needle thread tension is too tight pulling needle side ways
thread caught around bobbin holder is top thread too loose
take it in for a service check as the needle /hook timing is complicated to adjust and the problem could be more complicated than suggested

Sounds like the timing is off (the needle is arriving at the bobbin at the wrong time and colliding with something in the bobbin area). Take it for service or search the internet for sewing machine timing instructions. There are tons of web sites and videos.

One of the most common causes of needle breaking is you are pulling your fabric to fast through. Let the feed dog do the work. When fabric is pulled it bends the needle backwards and then the needle hits the plate...breaks.

Take the needle plate off and see where it needle is connecting with the bobbin. The bobbin case may not be in place and this is what the needle is hitting.

If there doesn’t seem to be a problem with your needle, try the following:

* Check your pressure foot
Make sure it’s attached securely.

* Change your pressure foot
Your pressure foot may be bent, causing your needle to hit it.

* Don’t sew over pins
A needle that hits a pin can break. Always remove the pins from your fabric before they reach your needle.

* Don’t pull your fabric as you sew
You could be bending your needle back, causing it to hit your needle plate instead of going into the hole. Just guide your fabric, letting it feed on its own.

* Check your needle plate
Make sure it's securely in position.

* Change your needle plate
If you’ve been using a straight stitch needle plate (a plate with a small hole, often used for sewing fine, delicate fabrics, switch to a needle plate with a wider hole.

* Check the position of your needle
Sewing machines with zigzag capability allow you to adjust the position of your needle – right,left, or center. If your needle is not positioned correctly, it may be hitting your needle plate or pressure foot.

Also, before you start to sew a seam, hold the upper and bobbin thread tails. Hold them back
and out of the way as you sew your first couple of stitches. This will keep them from getting
caught in your machine.

Sounds to me that your machine is out of time. I recommend you take it to your local repair center.

I don't know if this will work, but sometimes the thread in my machine gets too tight because I hold it in place with a water bottle cap, but then my needle gets pulled too far away from where it is supposed to go, and it bends and hits the bobbin plate, and then it just breaks.
