What is thje ip address for the speedstream 5100 dsl modem ,i need to make changes to the settings 168.192.0.1 does not work

Hi.
You actually were fairly close on your answer to what is actually needed.
I use 192.168.1.1
Almost 100% of the time, this is the access address for the router that a computer is hooked up to.

Now, you will need to know the username and password, and that I can't help you with as I am not the one that set it up.
However, is it is still on the factory settings, and the username and password haven't been changed from the factory setting, then I can tell you what to type into for those spaces.

The factory settings are:for username : admin
:for password :
leave the password space blank.
Then, you can go and configure it any way that you wish.
Just remember to write the new ones down, that way if you need to do it again, you won't have to hunt for ways to acces the router again.
Also, here is a link for the manual for your router.
It is in pdf form, so you can either view it online, or you can download it and view it while offline.

www2.windstream.net/downloads/links/SpeedStream211.pdf

I hope this helps you out, I know dealing with routers and modems can be a frustrating adventure.

Good luck to you, and have a good day!

I got a Motorola wired modem and it dosn't let me play xbox live why?

you may have to open a port that you xbox can use to connect to xbox live
    • 1 Connect only your Xbox and computer to the Internet. Disconnect all other devices. This is done to easily determine the Xbox's IP address, which is used in the Port Forwarding process.
    • 2 Open the Windows Command Prompt from the Start Menu. Click "Start > Run...," then type in "cmd" and hit "OK."
    • 3 Enter "ipconfig" n the command prompt. A list of IP addresses pop ups. Write down the IP address of your computer.
    • 4 Open your router setup utility through a web browser. Use the given directions from your router manufacturer to do so. Generally, the configuration page is opened by inputting the router IP address into the URL in the following format: http://123.456.7.8/ (where the IP Address number is unique to the router manufacturer).
    • 5 Open the "DCHP Client List" section of the router setup utility. This lists the devices currently connected to the Internet through the router, which is your computer and Xbox. Write down your Xbox's IP address (in this case, the one that is not your computer's IP address).
    • 6 Navigate to the "Virtual Servers" or "Port Forwarding" menu in your router setup utility. Most manufacturers have a side menu on their router setup utility, which is generally a section under your "Firewall" settings.
    • 7 Input the following port numbers and your Xbox's IP address into your router's port forwarding configuration:
      TCP 80
      UDP 88
      UDP 3074
      TCP 3074
      UDP 53
      TCP 53
Placing these numbers in the port forwarding menu opens up the required ports that your Xbox needs to connect to the Xbox LIVE network. Save this configuration.
    • 8 Start up Xbox LIVE to check your connection. If you have no problem connecting, then you have successfully forwarded the required ports.

Trying to open port 3389 in my firewall. Set for UDP and TCP but the tester program still says that they are closed. I have disabled windows firewall. Still no luck.

Make sure you are doing this for the right ip address. The ip address should be your local computer's ip address and will probably look like 192.168.1.x . To get to this go into your network control panel and click on your connection and view the details to get this information. Remember that every time your router resets this ip could change. I would suggest setting a static ip in either the router or on your computer in question. To set up a static IP for windows xp: http://portforward.com/networking/static-xp.htm. For windows Vista:http://portforward.com/networking/static-vista.htm. For windows 7: http://portforward.com/networking/static-win7.htm.

Cant find my ip adress

Greetings - It's fairly easy in Windows.

Click the Start menu button on the Windows taskbar. Click 'Run...' on this menu.

Type 'cmd' in the text box that appears. A command prompt window launches on the desktop (white text on black background).

In this command window, type 'ipconfig /all" then hit ENTER. Details are shown for each of the computer's network adapters. Computers installed with VPN software or emulation software will possess one or more virtual adapters.

The 'IP Address' field states the current IP address for that network adapter (you'll have just one).

Happy Networking!

I have a trendnet wireless router tew 432brp, a new hp windows 7 laptop, and old xp laptop and i want to share the connection with my verizon um175 aircard. this has worked for several years with the old...

The router connects computers together . You are using a windows 7 p.c and connecting it to an internet connection via a usb verizon um175 aircard.
I think you need to share the internet connection with the rest of the network and may need to feed the ethernet cable into the feed port of the router. I have not done this before but logically the windows 7 computer would have to act as a gateway to the internet.

http://www.dummies.com/computers/operating-systems/windows-7/how-to-share-an-internet-connection-in-windows-7/

https://www.ibvpn.com/billing/knowledgebase/53/Internet-Connection-Sharing-on-Windows-7.html

Note the default gateway is going to have to be the windows 7 ip address on the other computers
You may need to set the ip address on windows 7 to a static address and then change the dhcp server settings default gateway and also increase the first address to not include the windows 7 ip address or the routers ip address in the lease range for shcp.

I keep getting this ip address showing on my computer network box ip 192.168.1.3 how do i get rid of it?

It's most likely the IP address of your computer (as determined by the DHCP server in the router.
Why do you want to get rid of it? Your computer has to have an IP address.

I have just subscribed to Virgin Media. I inserted the disc....had some problems and phoned only to be told I did not need the disc. I am now obviously online but when I switch on my computer has a sign...

Try uninstalling any Virgin Media software that may have been installed when you initially put in the disc. Most of the time the computer will get an IP address directly from the modem without needing any of the ISP software.
