What kind of usb cord do I need to connect to computer

The best thing to do is to take the scanner to a computer shop so they can see what cables and power adapter you need.

Just use a regular printer type cable. On newer models, they use a regular USB connection so it's easier to use USB keys

Let's compare bananas with bananas and apples with apples... if you have the unit ON with some lights and some activity going on, than the POWER CORD is just fine... you seam to refer of a communication problem (not a power problem) from the unit to the computer... normally for HP multi-function devices you have to install a USB cable and the software FIRST than connect the unit when the installer ask you to do so, FIRST UN-INSTALL all drivers & software you installed previously, reboot the computer with the unit OFF, connect the USB cable, than pop in the installation CD, go through the setup (accordingly) than when the installer ask you to connect the unit, turn it ON, than let the installer finish the configuration...

You can find this from any computer parts store. Or any market around you.

as far as I know there is only one USB cord for the printers you not go far wrong just go buy one in the shop he will know what you need it cost about £2 or little more.
All you need to ask them in the shop is you want a USB cord go from your printer to the PC.

disconnect your usb hub and connect it directly to your computer and that will eliminate the usb hub if that is causing the problem,
I have worked on these machines a lot and very rarely do you have any usb problems, if it still is giving the same error message after by passing the usb hub, you will need to replace the main PCB on the printer itself

The monitor needs a power cord and a signal cable. The power cord is a standard 3-prong detachable cord just like the one on nearly every desktop computer and many other electronic appliances.
