I moved digidesign files into Lacie disc. I'm thinking this may have made my loading issues worse?
USB 2.0 is extremely slow for the purpose of doing direct recording. External drives are best used for backup after a project is done.

my disk, when on, is not recognised by Windows while the light is flashing between yellow and orange fast (like a car's flash -faster-). please could anyone help me? - i need my data!

Has the drive been formatted? Before using a hdd it has to be formatted. In Windows XP you have choices of FAT 32 or NTFS format. Hope this helps.

Hello,
Open the external hard drive cover, remove the hard disk inside, and fix it
back. Try again and let's see what happens.
If it still does not work, insert the external drive into the computer, feel
the hard drive if it spins/vibrate from inside or if it makes a cracking noise.
If it spins/vibrate, it means the hard disk is still working. In that case, you
have to get another external drive case/cover.
But if it makes cracking noise, then it means the hard drive is damaged and you
need to get another one.

First cehck whether your computer is able to recoznize other USB storage devices or not. If you see that it is not recoznizing other USB storage devices. Then you need go to your Boot Up screen, the screen that opens when you restart your PC.
Then go to the USB section and enable USB drive.
If this also does not resolve your problem, then try installing USB drivers on your PC, You can install them from the website : http://www.softwarepatch.com/tips/usb2-driver.html
