For any Equity clock, press and hold down the Alarm Set button. First the year will flash, if you don't care about the year, press the Alarm Set button again, if you do care about the year, press the arrow button (it could be an UP/DOWN arrow or a side arrow which is usually used to change from Centrigrade to Fahrenheit).
Basically, you begin by pressing and holding the Alarm Set button, then you use the arrow buttons, then again press Alarm Set to go to the next thing you want to set. If you wait too long, it will not set it, so begin again. I do this all the time, esp when DST occurs as the clock, when manufactured did not have the rules for the new DST time.

I don't think the timer runs on 240 volts does it? You can switch 240, but the timer uses 120 volts to run. You might check the connections and timer clock rating more closely. Also, the 'off' & 'on' trippers are different, make sure you use the right one.

Check your wiring, it sounds like it's not right. The clock needs 120 volts to run.
