How do you get the dog leash/cord to go back into the casing on a retractable leash.

Could be twisted inside, pull the lead out and see if it is twisted and then it might retract properly!

What is a retractable leash?

Retractable leashes can usually extend up to 25-30 feet long. They are ideal for leash training puppies; however they may not be the best solution for keeping your pet under control.

My vet suggested that I buy a long leash for my dog. Why do I need such a long one?

It's actually just kinder to your dog to get a longer leash. That way you give them loads of space to run around and feel free but you still act like a responsible owner. I think long leashes - the retractable ones that you can pull back in if you need to, are just great.

Where can I buy a patterned dog leash? I'm sick of all these boring colors that they sell in the regular shops.

You could try glamordog's website http://www.glamourdog.com/dog-leashes.html . They have a very cute range of designer leashes. Or this site that has some really funky designs (I love the animal print one). http://www.dogcollarsboutique.com/Retractable-Leashes-p-1-c-105.html

How do you use a retractable pet leash properly? I just bought one and am worried about hurting my dog.

It's pretty simple to use a retractable leash, but check out this webpage that gives some basic instructions about how to use the leash so it's comfy for you and your dog. http://www.dog-obedience-training-review.com/training-a-puppy-to-walk-on-a-leash.html

I want to buy a retractable dog leash but you need to pick a size. How do I know what size to choose?

That depends on the type of dog you have and how much he weighs. The retractable leashes are great but you need to have the right leash or it may not be strong enough to hold your dog. In general, small is for dogs up to 26lb, medium for dogs up to 44lb and large up to 110 lbs.

What is a retractable dog leash?

Retractable leashes are great as they let your pet run around on a long leash, giving them the sense of freedom but allow you to put the brakes on and retract the lead when you want to stop your pet from going any further.

What kind of dog leash is the best for my dog?

A good old fashion leashis usually the best option. Theretractable kind has been known to harm small dogs and malfunction when youneed to restrain your dog the most. Also, retractable leashes are known to hurt dog owners as well.

My Flexi retractable dog leash will not retract is there any way to overcome this or do I need to buy a new one?

It could be that the leash became twisted when it retracted or that the spring that is used to retract it has broken, first of all pull out the lead all the way and try to slowly feed it back into the unit ensuring that it stays flat. If you have trouble feeding it back in to the unit it could be the spring - this shouldn't be too hard to replace by opening the unit. Undo the Allen screws on side of retractable leash. Carefully use standard screwdriver to gently pry the top from the bottom. Try to pry evenly on each side to avoid breaking the plastic casing. Visually inspect parts for signs of damage such as burns, cuts, rubs, tangles, frayed or worn sections. Check all sewn areas for loose, missing or damaged stitches. Replace leash material if necessary.
