Blinking 'Check Collector Cell' light

I have two identical Oreck XL air purifiers. On one the Check Collector cell light is blinking red. The cell has been thoroughly cleaned and dried. Resetting the light using the press/hold procedure is not working. If I put the cell in the other machine it does not trigger the blinking light. If I put the cell from the other machine in this machine the light blinks and can not be reset. Is there any other way to reset the blinking light than the way the manual states?

Which model XL series do you have? There is obviously something shorted or arcing on the plates of the cell. look at the plates and see if they are laying flat and the wires are all still attached across the front of the cell. A loose, sagging, broken or bad contact on the end plates will cause the bad cell lights. clean off the area where the cell makes contact inside the unit. The metal strips that run across the ends of the cell make contact with the plates inside the cell and get their power from them, dirty contacts in any part of these contacts will cause the problem. Even a bad contact from the end cap to the plates inside the cell will cause this. Try wiggling the cell around, kind of push on it on edge to get the plates to shift slightly and clean the points where the plates touch the outer strips on the sides. Check for arcing with the lights turned off,

Using the cells in a known good machine and finding them to work without setting off the red check cell light negates the cell as having an arc. Call customer support and they will tell you the machine itself has an issue.

I had the same issue with my Oreck XL... blinking light after cleaning... I had also purchased the spray can of Oreck cell cleaner. Basically after the first cleaning it blinked... I cleaned it a second time one letting the spray foam sit and work, about ten minutes... rinsed the Truman cell off well, let it dry overnight and it now works well. Remember to reset the light by holding in the left button after start up....it was very dirty and needed that second cleaning!

I need instruction on how to clean my Oreck XL.

Unplug the unit before cleaning. Wipe off the cabinet with a soft cloth and a mild non-abrasive cleanser.

To clean the electronic collector, loosen the front grill retainer screw then press in the lock and remove the grill. Pull out the collector by the tabs on the sides using both hands. Snap off the charcoal filter from the back of the collector. Then slide off the pre-filter. Spray the pre-filter and the collector with the Oreck Assail-a-Cell cleanser and then let stand for a few minutes before rinsing with water. Otherwise, soak the pre-filter and the collector in warm water (bathtub or sink) with mild dish detergent. Soak for 2-3 hours. Rinse well.

Then allow the parts to dry for completely before reassembling the air purifier. Air dry only.

Pictures to go with the Oreck XL Professional Air Purifier cleaning directions are in the manual. It is available here: http://www.oreck.com/PUG/3323-8889-Rev-K-AIR8.pdf . See page 5.

I hope this helps.

"Cleaning overdue" red blinking light after cleaning was done

Check that there are no fine pieces of lint that are bridging the plates or the ionizing wires, to ground.

Check the contact points of the collector cell and inside the unit.

The light is caused by a shorted collector cell and associated components.

Cleaning the grid

Hi,
You clean the cell by soaking it in warm soapy water in the kitchen sink: "
soak the Electronic Collector Cell in warm
water in a kitchen sink or bathtub. Mild dish detergent (powder
or liquid) may be added to the water to help break down the
dirt on the Collector Cell. The Collector Cell should be allowed
to soak for two to three hours."
