SOURCE: Calculator screen stratified black lines

I've had a similar problem in the past. With mine though it was white lines. It still happens sometimes when I don't use it for a while. To fix it, all I did was set the screen to its darkest setting and left it on for 10 minutes (keep it from turning itself off, by pushing buttons ever few minutes.) It works great, and the calculator is fine unless you leave it unused for a month or so. A similar solution may work for you.

SOURCE: Help!!a Black screen appears when I turn on my calculator

http://oakroadsystems.com/math/ti83oops.htm#Lines

ok guys, after about 10 years of not using my ti-83, i put the new batteries in and got the black screen you are all talking about.. came to this site.. saw no solutions.. kept looking.
I've fixed my calculator, but my brain won't tell me exactly how.. but i followed those instructions..
you CAN see what is on your screen if you tilt it under the light ... just fiddle around until you can see faint writing on your screen under the black.
Press window

i have these entries in my calculator
xmin=-10
xmax=10
xscl=1
ymin=-10
ymax=10
yscl=5
xres=2

then go and press second and the down arrow to lighten your screen. it should work.

SOURCE: calculator not working

i found this somewhere else on this website
and it worked for my broken ti-83plus which had same odd startup symptoms.

Remove one of the AAA batteries.
Press and hold CLEAR while reinstalling the AAA battery.
Continue holding CLEAR button and press ON.
Release buttons and press CLEAR again.
Calculator should be normal mode now. ;0)

SOURCE: texas instruments ti-83 plus. only have black line on screen

Hello,
Reset the calculators memory [2nd][MEM][7:Reset][1:All Ram][2:Reset]
If that does not work

You should reinstall the system which you find here

http://education.ti.com/educationportal/downloadcenter/SoftwareList.do?website=US&tabId=1&paneId=2

Use the link below to install TIConnect software
http://education.ti.com/educationportal/sites/US/productDetail/us_ti_connect.html You can also download the latest OS there.

Install TI connect on your computer and run it to open the main Window. Then connect you calculator to a USB port and, in the TIConnect main window Click the TIDeviceInfo icon. Software will try to retrieve the info. If it does your calculator is fine.

If it tells you Device Not found , Click communication settings in same pop up window where it said Not found, and Select Device, Select Cable, Select Port and Click OK..

If you are lucky and it works, you can reinstall the OS, which can be downloaded from education.ti.com. You drag and drop the OS on the TIconnect main window. Calculator must of couse be connected to computer.

If you have problem with TIconnect, use the calc-to-calc cable to transfer the OS of a working calculator. Yous should be on Receive mode [2nd][Link] --->>Receive. (When both calculators are ready hit enter.) The other calculator, you guessed exactly right, must be on Send [2nd][Link][SEND][G:SendOS]. (When both calculators hit [ENTER])

If all that does not work, then it may be time to head for a place of worship to pray for its resurection, or look for a repair shop.
Hope it helps

Black line appears and then screen goes blank

Your calculator is most likely fine electronically, but the contacts are being interrupted by contamination; it could be water or other fluid, dust, etc. The solution is to disassemble it completely and to rinse it out. Here are instructions for disassembling the TI-84 which should be similar.
http://www.instructables.com/id/Ti-84-Basic-Disassembly/
If there's water let dry completely before putting it back together. If pop, etc., rinse with isopropyl alcohol (99% alcohol) and let dry completely. The best thing is electronic contact cleaner, available in electronic, auto and hardware parts and supply stores and online. It must be 'safe for plastic' and 'non-conductive', and definitely NOT contain anything like ACETONE. These are harmless to electronics, and my be used to douse any device to clean up all types of contamination, including unseen carbon build-up from normal use. They dry quickly and leave no residue. They can be safely used in any other electronic device and to clean the contacts of old outlets, light switches, etc. -- anything with electronic contacts.
Try to rinse out all areas, especially where the screen makes contact with the main board. If there is any kind of crusty green build-up on the batter posts (due to battery acid corrosion), you may have to carefully rub this with a cloth until you see shiny metal.
Once you've rinsed all the available areas, let dry COMPLETELY (I place a blow dryer (low heat) next to drying parts for several hours to be sure) and put back together.

Blank lines across the screen of a TI-86 graphing calculator

Try this, hook up new battery and go to MODE and darken and lighten the screen.. do it ten to fifteen times. if that doesn't help, try hook up most left and most right's battery terminal to a DC supply at 4.5V. dont go above 4.5 it will fry your calc (it is design to handle 3V). now you are forcing extra juice into the dead LCD screen lines... and reapeat the MODE + darken trick. I fixed mine like that! Works! and remeber to leave it completely black(darkest) for a while to keep that dead line alive!

Screen not displaying whole letters because of horizontal and vertical lines

I've had the same problem. A temporary fix that I have found is to turn up the contrast all the way (press [2nd] then hold down the up arrow) until the screen becomes mostly black. Then turn the contrast back down (press [2nd] then hold down the down arrow) until it is at a normal level. If you can get rid of all the white lines when you turn up the contrast the screen will be back to normal. Unfortunately this does not permanently fix the problem because I cannot get rid of all the lines and it seems to be getting progressively worse each time it start up the calculator.

Horizontal lines obstructing the second half of the ti 83 calculator screen, anyone know repair tips?

I had the same prob with vertical lines on the screen, and getting messed up when there was lots of numbers on the screen.

Solution: Change your batteries. Put some freshies in then adjust your contrast until you see the little black box. If you still have a problem with the lines, darken the screen until it's black (2nd up repeatedly) and let it sit for a couple minutes. Lighten your screen back to normal (2nd down) and turn off then turn her back on.
