INVALID DIM error message may occur
if you are trying to graph a function that does
not involve the stat plot features. The error can
be corrected by turning off the stat plots. To
turn the stat plots off, press 2nd (stat plot) ,and
then select 4:PlotsOff.
• You specified a list dimension as something
other than an integer between 1 and 999.
• You specified a matrix dimension as something
other than an integer between 1 and 99.
• You attempted to invert a matrix that is not
square.

SOURCE: Error: Invalid Dim

this happened to me as well. i looked it up and heres what i found:
http://www.prenhall.com/divisions/esm/app/graphing/ti83/faq/faq.html

basically you have a stat plot on so to turn it off, press 2nd and then the Y= button to get to "Stat Plot"
one of them is turned on so press enter and select OFF. this should fix the problem!

SOURCE: error :invalid DIM

This is my first post on this site, but I've had friends at school ask me about this. Apparently I'm like a calculator genius or something...

One solution I know of is clearing the RAM. Sounds strange, doesn't it? But it fixed three different calcs.

Be sure to back up or archive important data before doing this.

SOURCE: INVALID DIM error! help me!

Hello,
Here is what the manual says
INVALID DIM : The dimension of the argument is incompatible with th current operation. (As dimension of a matrix, a list).

You can tell us more about what your were trying to do, we may able to help. Reset memory to default, the error may disappear.
[2nd][MEM][7][2][2] Defaults set.

Hope it helps.

Casio FX - 9860G SD have complex equations?? edit

The Casio FX-9860G SD can solve a polynomial equation of degree 2 or 3 with REAL coefficients. If the complex MODE is set to REAL it will find the real roots. If the complex mode is set to a+ib, it will find the real and complex roots.

Apparently it will take coefficients that are real, and will give a Ma Error if any coefficient is complex.

Addendum.
The calculator CANNOT solve equations with complex coefficient. YOU can however convert the system of linear equations with ccomplex coefficients ( of the type you show) as a system of 4 linear equations in 4 unknowns; Split x into a real and an imaginary part, split y into a real and an imaginary part. Substitute Real(x)+iIm(x) for variable x in the equations; substitute Real(y)+iIm(y) for y in the two equations; do the algebra. In each of the original equations split the Real and imaginary parts. You should be able to derive 4 linear equations in unknowns Real(x), Im(x), Real(y), and Im(y).
Use the linear equation solver to obtain the solutions. Recompose x=Real(x)+iIm(x), and y=Real(y)+iIm(y)

Am trying to calculate corelation on a Casio fx-9750GII,

Press Menu.
Use arrows to highlight STAT icon and press EXE.
Enter your data in two lists (x-values in L1, Y-values in L2)
Press F2 to activate the CALC Tab at the bottom of screen.

8_1_2011_10_31_34_am.jpg
This is what you see.

8_1_2011_10_35_06_am.jpg
Press F3 to activate the REGression tab.
This is what you will see: the TABs at the bottom of screen.
Each tab corresponds to a regression model: X-linear, X2 quadratic, etc.
8_1_2011_10_38_52_am.jpg
If you press F3:X^2, you get the following
8_1_2011_10_36_07_am.jpg
You see the parameters of the regression equation, the coefficient of determination r^2, and the Mean Square error. No correlation coefficient is defined for this regression model.
For other models like linear, logarithmic, power and exponential regressions, the correlation coefficient is defined and is thus displayed with the regression equation. It is the r-value.

Cannot graph invalid dim error

This error show up when you are graphing out of the plot menu. If you are not graphing data points from list menu, you need to turn the plots off. In the y= screen, you will see the words plot 1, plot 2, etc across the top of the screen. If one of the plots is highlighted (black box over the words), you need to turn it off. This can be done by arrowing up and highlighting the box and pressing enter. When you arrow back down, the plot should be off and you will be able to enter an equation in the y= lines and graph.

If you are graphing from the plot menu, this error lets you know that one of the lists you are graphing is longer than the other.

Another way to fix the problem is to reset the calculator by pressing 2nd button then plus sign then 7 then 1 then 2. This will reset the calculator however if you are graphing from lists, your data will be erased. Hope this helps.

I am not able to do some functions on my TI-84 Plus calculator, such as: coefficient correlations. I was told I may need to reset my calculator. How do I do that?

To have the coefficient correlation show up when you calculate a regression, you must first turn diagnostics on.

The way to do this is press 2nd then zero. You are now in the catalog. Go to the d's in the alaphbetic list, highlight "diagnostic on" and press enter. You will be taken back to the home screen press enter and you get the word "done". The diagnostic is not on unless you get the word "done".

Now when you calculate a regression, the correlation coefficient will show up. It is designated as r = on the home screen.

I get the error message ERR: INVALID DIM with

If you are in the stat mode and entering points in list 1 and list 2, it could be that one list is longer than the other.

If you are just trying to graph from the y= screen, one of your plots is probably turned on. The easiest way to fix this is to press the 2nd button the the plus button, then 7 and then 1 and then 2. This will reset to factory settings.

Invalid DIM

Just passing by, make sure you aren't zoomed in or panned away from the axis when you look. Check to see if there is some way you could be referencing a matrix. I can pull up a similar error by trying to pull a value out of a non-existant slot. I got my first TI 2 days ago, so I probably don't know as much as you.
