TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible.
If a checkerboard cursor ( black square ) is displayed, then either you have entered the maximum number of characters in a prompt, or memory is full. If memory is full:
-Press 2nd then MEM and then 2 to display the MEMORY MANAGEMENT / DELETE menu.
-Select the type of data you want to delete, or select 1:All for a list of all variables of all types. A screen is displayed listing each variable of the type you selected and the number of bytes each variable is using. -Press up-arrow and down-arrow keys to move the selection cursor > next to the item you want to delete, and then press DEL

To reset the calculator: 1) Remove all AAA batteries 2) Hold down the On button for 10 seconds 3) Reinsert AAA batteries 4) Turn the calculator back on.
Note: When you reset your graphing calculator, the contrast sometimes changes.
When you turn the calculator on, its screen is cleared, save for a small square on the top left corner. This is the cursor and it is blinking: The calculator is waiting for you to order it to perform some calculation.
