Eastern kingsnakes are large -- 36 - 48 in (90-122 cm) -- shiny-black, smooth-scaled snakes with white or yellow chain-link bands that cross the back and connect along the sides. Because of this pattern, this species is also referred to as the chain kingsnake.

treat all snakes as poisonous and you will be all right
however with out a description or a photo why would you expect any body to know about your snake
It depends..... white diamonds make it a California King Snake. Dark brown to black chain like make it a Diamond Backed Water Snake. Or if it consists of a series of diamonds with an outer frame of white, an inner frame of dark brown and a mottled pattern in the center and a rattle, it's a Western Diamondback....... Where do you live?
Garter
snakes, like most snakes, need a thermal gradient in their tanks. What this means is that they will need some
areas to be cooler than others. Try to
keep a gradient between 70-72F on one side and 80-82F on the other. This way your garter snake can self-regulate
its body temperatures as needed.
