I managed to unlock my DVD player with a solution I found on videohelp.com. I quote the solution:
I made my new RDR-HX750 code free with this Remote Controll program on my old iPAQ:

Just follow these steps:
Turn player to DVD mode and switch off player (standby) with NO DVD inserted
Press 1 on NoviiRemote
Press 2 on NoviiRemote
Press 3 on NoviiRemote
Press 4 on NoviiRemote
Press 5 on NoviiRemote
Player turns on
Press 1 on NoviiRemote
Press 2 on NoviiRemote
Press 3 on NoviiRemote
Press 4 on NoviiRemote
Press 5 on NoviiRemote
Player shows "T:imer OK" on the display and turns off
Turn player on again, after that you can verify your firmware setting:
1. System Menu
2. Settings
3. Audio output
4. Dolby output
5. Just mark "Dolby Digital"
6. Press Angle button
If successful your code region should be "14"
The first problem is to find an old PDA with infrared (Irda) since the newer models no longer use Infrared. The PDA also needs to have windows mobile. I managed to get hold of one via my dad.
I downloaded the program via the link above; after some trial and error, I managed to install the NoviiRemote program.
After installing boot up the Noviiremote progra. You have to select the "sony 0" codebase; don't worry, it's easy to find after you booted up the program on your PDA and it comes with the download. You will see a screen with 5 digits: 1 2 3 4 5.
After this, the instructions say:
press 1 2 3 4 5; the player turns on.
Instead of what the instructions say, when I did this, my player did NOT turn on. I turned it on manually, then continued with the procedure. I pressed 1 2 3 4 5 and the display indeed said:
t:imer ok. I don't know if it is necessary to press the digits before turning the DVD player on, but hey, who cares, since eventually it worked.
After this I went on following the instructions: turn on the dvdplayer, press the
system menu button on the remote, go to settings, go to audio output, go to dolby output and highlight/select/mark "dolby digital". Then I pressed the angle button as mentioned. You see a "secret" textbox where your region should be displayed as 14. I tried to play my region 1 DVDs and voila, to my own surprise it worked!
I don't know who made the codebase for the Noviiremote program, but I am very thankful. I hope this helps more people!
