My calculator will turn on but when i press the buttons none of numbers show up on the screen and the calculator won't turn off

Originally, the calculator kept kept showing 13 with the cursor over the 3. I took the batteries out, etc but it still kept showing 13. I ended up taking out the "back up battery" and I am now stuck with my current problem

SOURCE: New batteries, does not stay on and is unresponsive

I had the exactly same problem, and my TI 84 plus used to be extremely unresponsive and slow, as I have been fixing the latter problem by blowing really hard into the I/O plot, I did the same to fix the new problem. For many times not thing happened though. Then I insert a metal stick into it and gently hit the inside. In a short time, the calc was normal again!! Now my calc even turns on when it's been put off, with its cursor frozen. I simply use my little finger to dig/scratch the plot and see the lovely cursor beating again.

SOURCE: my calculator started malfuctioning and it would

After you replace batteries, the screen contrast may become too light or to dark. In your case, I suspect it lightened too much.

To darken screen

Press [2nd] key and release it.
Press and HOLD the [UpArrow]
Keep pressing the Arrow key until screen darkens to your liking.

If that does not solve your problem search this website: I have answered countless number of questions on the same subject.

Will not turn on

Try the following, in order.

First, make sure you have good batteries and that they're in the right way (I can't count the number of times I've put the batteries in the wrong way on my 48GX).

Press and release ON, then press and hold ON and press + several times to see whether anything shows up on the screen.

Press and hold ON, then press A and F simultaneously. Release A and F, then release ON.

Turn the calculator over. Remove the upper-right rubber foot. You'll see a small hole with "R" next to it. Insert a small paper clip or similar implement into the hole as far as it goes and hold for one second.

If none of the above have any effect then the calculator needs service.

Nothing shows up on the screen when I push any buttons. It will turn on, but after that nothing I push shows up on the screen. I have taken the batteries and the back up battery out.

Does the cursor show up at all? TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible.

My TI-84 plus silver edition calculator crashed after my little sister held the "2nd" button and then pressed the down arrow key. The screen showed a 4, 3, 2, 1 countdown and then blanked out. I...

If your little sister did as you say, then the logical way to handle the problem is to revert the process.
  1. Press [2nd] button and release it.
  2. Press and HOLD the UpArrow.
  3. As you keep pressing, the top right of the screen will show a series a number, starting with 3 maybe, as you cannot see the 1 or 2, and the display will darken.
  4. Maintain pressure on, till the display is to your liking.

My TI-84 Plus calculator won't work. It won't switch off by itself. When the batteries are reinserted, it says that all RAM has been cleared. When i press the 'ON' button again, the screen clears. but...

The Ram cleared message is normal after you change batteries. When you see this message you press the CLEAR button to erase it. You do not press the ON button again because the calculator is already ON. If you want to turn calculator OFF you press [2nd][ON] (OFF).

On certain calculators, pressing the ON button when calculator is already ON is interpreted as INTERRUPT the current command.

dd04f93.jpg
On the first screen above, the nPr menu corresponds to the permutations, while the nCr menu corresponds to the combinations.

To use them you need to enter n (the larger value), press the key corresponding to the calculation (F2 for nPr and F3 for nCr) and then press the smaller number (r). See screen below.

While the menus are displayed at the bottom of the screen you can use the other calculator keys to enter number, etc. As long as you do not press the Function Fx keys you wont activate them.

On the screen
  1. I set my calculator to the screen that is shown on the first screen capture
  2. I enter 15
  3. I press the F3 key: the Bold C is inserted after the number 15
  4. I type in 6
  5. To get the number of combinations that select 6 objects out of 15 ones (15C6) I press the [EXE] key.
  6. Result is 5005

When I turn the calculator on, I get a black screen. It won't go away.

Most likely the screen contrast is too high. Try to lighten screen
Press [2nd] key and release it
Press and Hold [DownArrow] until screen lightens to your liking.

As you keep pressing DownArrow, the top right corner shows a number that decreases as the screen lightens.
